My husband and I went in to browse during the Arcata country fair today, Sunday, September 21, 2024. I haven’t been in Plaza Design for years, because we’ve been living on the East Coast. I used to love it in there.
Imagine my surprise when the older woman employee (I’m a 58YO white woman, so older than me) started tailing me—all 👏🏻 the 👏🏻 way 👏🏻 around 👏🏻 the 👏🏻 store. 🙄
At one point, I looked at a couple of pens to see if they were Fountain pens or ballpoint (I’m a sucker for fountain pens!), and when she looked at me, I explained was looking for fountain pens. She said some other store might have them. Hubby said she rolled her eyes like she didn’t believe me.
Granted, we were dressed casually (jeans, hubby with a Humboldt State sweatshirt), but lady, I can afford what you’re selling. Don’t assume I would steal something. And you’re that worried, lock it up.
She stayed two feet behind me, stopping where I did, around the entire store, never engaging me or asking if I needed help. I was so tempted to make a dodge move toward the front door just to see what she would do!
I ended up buying some overpriced alcohol flavored gummies and a couple of stickers from the friendly young cashier, and the stalker finally went off somewhere else.
I will give it one more try. But if they treat customers like potential thieves again, I will not waste my money here and will bring my business elsewhere.
