I ordered unfinished pieces from the 2 West collection via Dunk & Bright in Syracuse, NY area. D&B customer service and delivery were great and I like the design, but one dresser arrived in an unsealed box and slid/dropped while being unloaded. It seems undamaged but the dropped edge has a corner that appears as though someone sanded it off (rounded instead of squared). Many of the staples attaching the backing to the pieces were not fully seated. Most disturbingly, all 4 pieces arrived without their bar handles (25 pieces). Since someone will be arriving tomorrow to paint the pieces, no drawer handles are a problem. It will take more time to put screws in all the holes so the drawers can be manipulated. Poorly done, Archbold. I echo the quality control comments. As far as I have seen so far, the furniture is otherwise of good quality. Hoping the responsible person will overnight the matte black barre handles to me ASAP and compensate my painter for his time. UPDATE: I have revised this to 4 stars. Archbold sent the hardware with the furniture but in a separate box. Apparently the warehouse folks did not see this or it was not properly identified. Dunk & Bright discovered the error after requesting a shipment of hardware. They are delivering the handles to us today, a Saturday. Also, the consensus after examination is that the dented corner resulted from the dropped furniture, not the craftsmanship. I don't know who was responsible for the box left open but the delivery person handling it should have stopped and re-sealed it before pushing it off the truck to the receiving delivery person. Dunk & Bright was good about making this right, The staples are definitely a quality control issue at Archbold. Again, the furniture appears to be of good quality. The surface is beautiful for painting. Removing drawers is a little challenging--one needs to push plastic pieces in the drawer glides in opposite directions to remove. Hopefully, the plastic "springs" will survive multiple...
Read morePurchased a 5 foot bookshelf from a reputable furniture company here in my town of Clayton, Georgia. Archbold would be the manufacturer. When the bookshelf, arrived I had no qualms about the look or the stain. But each of the shelves were in a non symmetrical or planned order. Some shelves had 18 inches between them and others were so close I couldn’t get a book on it. The top two shelves would have to come down for me to be able to use them for books however, the third shelf was missing the pre-drilled adjustable slot so that I could do nothing with it. That left my third shelf with about 4 inches of shelf space between it and the shelf above. I was left with a bookshelf with five shelves, but only the ability to use 3. It appears that whoever assembled the bookshelf, just failed to align these shelves in a proper order. It was like they were just put in there randomly. Whenever I brought this to the attention of Archbold and Betty, who is my contact person there, I got absolutely no response, except to say that this is the way the shelf was supposed to be made. I have since talked to other manufacturers, and they have contradicted Archbolds response . I purchased this shelf specifically for books and unless I hire someone to come in and readjust the shelves, I am not going to be able to use it for what I bought it for. Disappointed in their lack of concern for customers, or for the quality of their work. It seems that in the assembling of this shelf, a mistake was made, and they are not willing to make it right.i would not buy anything...
Read moreI just received the bookshelf I got on sale from on online store - Not Amazon. First, it arrived timely and the packing was astonishing! I have certainly never received anything else so well packed - excellent cushioning on all sides; every corner Double cushioned, not with bubble wrap, but with formed corner cushions; wood slats to ensure the box kept it's shape, and double boxed. And that was before I even saw the bookshelf! The bookshelf is beautifully made - well shaped, evenly constructed, real wood throughout. Even the back is substantial board, real wood, not fiberboard or engineered wood. The wood is well selected for a lovely grain, and there are no imperfections. The slight arch at the top of the bookshelf frame is accurately cut and smoothly sanded; the shelves are evenly cut and sanded smooth - and though adjustable, they are held in place for shipping so there are no damages. The corners are true, and held together with sturdy countersunk screws - not staples - and the corner joints meet perfectly. The backing board is attached with sturdy screws at each corner, as well as the expected staples. And all of the wood is sanded smooth on both inside and outside - even where it doesn't show. I chose the unfinished surface so I could match the woodwork in my home, and I am absolutely thrilled that I might not even need to fine finish sand before applying the stain!! There was a thank you note inside, asking for feedback, and I am so happy to give it! I will certainly be looking for Archbold furniture again...
