This place is a great value. We just use the cardio and weights rooms and they have just about everything. I've seen full franchise gyms with less equipment. BUT there is a trade off; it's not a big, expensive gym. It definitely has the feel of a community center first and gym second (it is a YMCA after all, not a planet fitness or WOW). I see reviews talking about lacking cleanliness and climate control but we've never found that. It's cool in the summer, serious fans and ventilation up and downstairs so there's always air movement and ambient noise. We haven't used the pool yet but it looks clean and certainly isn't lacking chlorine. I wonder if people have gotten used to everything being taken care of for them without asking. It's not a massive staff so communicating helps make it better for everyone. Plus the staff is all super nice and welcoming. We just really like the...
Read moreYMCA's across the country have helped people get back on their feet for years, however right now they have a six month waiting list just to get a bed to sleep in and they are not trying to expand their housing program,as far as I know, in the Athol area. It's the middle of February and the homeless population is very large right now. The state or some one else needs to step it up to get these people off of the street. Thank you for what you do but this area needs more emergency housing especially with the amount of people freely walking into our country down south. I choose not to pick sides politically because both parties are a joke. We need to start compromising and working together to get these people off of the street. There are unused buildings all over the place that just sit and rot when homeless people could be using these structures to stay out of...
Read moreDecent gym, I wish there were more squat racks because when it's busy it can throw your routine off, but oh well. People are, mostly, quite friendly, staff are all friendly. Great little swim class for the little'uns with good instructors. Occasionally you get a mom screaming at her kids in the water, but overall nice swim classes. They FINALLY made dividers for the men's showers (yikes). The main street gym is pretty well setup, with the squat rack and bumper plates, a few different benches, and a while slew of equipment. They have a cardio room with treadmills and stuff, a couple rowers, stair machines, a set of machines for a full body workout, if that's your thing. They have classes, basketball court, some team sports. Soccer for kiddos, baseball for kiddos... Lots to do for a VERY reasonable price. Go and...
