I loved being able to get in a healthy walk of 9 holes today. The overall LOOK of the place is great. And the greens are very unique/challenging. Unfortunately, there are a few big issues though:
Overall, for a course that is just starting out, you should go above and beyond in your efforts to familiarize your players with the course. No map of the course at all!? To expect players to 'learn' how to play there is assuming they want to come back after their first game.
The course just seems to have been thrown out there just thinking design and not about maintenance or the players. VERY poor planning for making things easy for the golfer to find the tee for the next hole. Also, there seems to be a major issue developing with the dry and hard ground all over the course.
Just my $.02.

Read moreBobby Jones would roll over in his grave if he saw these course conditions. The greens are not green, they are brown. Not just brown patches of grass, but entire surface areas look like they have been set on fire, especially on the 2nd. The sand traps were full of water and mosquitoes. There were a couple of tee boxes where finding a flat place to stand was a challenge. If your shot strays off-line and you are in the woods...forget it. There is so much undergrowth, you need a weed whacker to to find your ball.
The worst part is the geese. There are a lot of geese. I mean, A LOT! They are loud, they are in the way of your shots (they hang out on the greens...im not kidding) and their poop is on the greens (maybe thatâs why the grass is so dead). I had putts on two different greens that had a large amount of goose poop in my line. I don't know what the rule is on this and whether I could move my ball. You can't just brush goose poop away like a leaf, it is stuck to the grass. Even if you do sweep it to the side, the grass is still sticky and slows down you putt.
It isn't hard to get rid of geese. Let a couple dogs off the lease and see if those geese stick around. they won't.
Also, the A/C in the clubhouse was either busted or not turned on. So, don't expect to have a beer and cool off...
Read moreJust played the new design and I was pleasantly surprised. Pretty much two thumbs up all the way around. I may have had low expectations just from decades past. The practice facility was great. Huge covered parking deck. Nice new carts with music and GPS. Eight different tees which is exactly what golf needs everywhere and coincides nicely with all the new 2019 rule changes. The only drawback seems to be a lack of signs and yardages. While the carts have GPS for yardagesâŚthat is zero help when it is cart path only and you are far away from the path. Even though the touchscreen GPS allows you to check yardages from anywhere, it is not realistic to obtain an accurate yardage away from the cart. I recommend bringing a laser range finder but noticed the flags donât have the mirrors on top. Regardless, this is a minor inconvenience. I suspect the reversible course makes it hard to do normal sprinkler head yardages (maybe?) or perhaps these are coming soon. Overall, I was essentially blown away although again my expectations were low. I can see it getting crowded and slow out there, but it is really nice to have an actual in-town public option with actual real greens and a legit driving range. Bravo Bobby Jones Golf Course. ...
