If You Didn’t Buy It There, Don’t Bother:
This shop has lost my business. They no longer fix basic tire, brake, or mechanical issues on bicycles that aren’t purchased at their store. I understand the laws and safety concerns around working on e-bikes not purchased there — especially when it involves electrical components — but that’s not what I was asking for.
I recently came in twice asking for help with a flat tire, reassembling complicated gears, and adjusting the brakes — all standard mechanical work. Nothing to do with the motor or electronics. Explaining I would remove the battery and electronic components prior to arrival and they could even do the quick repair in the parking lot so the bike wouldn’t be “in the shop”. I would accommodate anything just to get some help.
They fixed this exact issue for me last summer with no problem. Now, suddenly, they’re refusing to help people unless the bike was bought there. The manager told me the owner doesn’t want them doing “small repairs” anymore because it takes away from selling bikes. Meanwhile, the store is empty every time I walk in and there are three people standing around talking.
What they don’t realize is that kind of short-sighted approach is how you lose good customers. You’re not just turning down a $60 repair — you’re turning away future sales, trust, and loyalty. I’m currently shopping for a new e-bike, and it absolutely won’t be from a shop that can’t be bothered to support riders with...
Read moreThis has become my go to bike shop.
The owner Jason is a wonderful guy who runs a no frills shop with a down to earth showroom, most anything and everything you’d ever need without the pushy sales pitch.
The bike tech Pat is so thorough and knowledgeable about every aspect of cycling, he unintentionally converted me to clipless pedals after I had been debating internally for 6+ months. I ordered shoes from them, bought the pedals, and ordered new tires.
My annual maintenance service was done in 2 hours (not usual but they happened to be slow that day)
Other highlight includes their other tech and bike fit specialist named Mike. He saved my chain on the spot with some quick lube and saved me from having to leave my bike for the day. Since I’m getting clipless pedals, I’ll be getting my next bike fit from him when he returns in the next few months.
Love that I’ve finally found a shop without the attitude and with people who are there to help.
Bike tech and shop crisis averted.
Definitely check this spot out and...
Read moreA native of Atlantic Highlands New Jersey. I no longer live in this wonderful town and was so happy to meet, Jay the owner. I believe the owner, and that I'm remembering his name correctly, of the Highlander Bike Shop. I come into town from time to time to Road ride because where I live now doesn't have the hills of the Atlantic Highlands area, where does??? I would be remiss if I didn't say it's five stars all theacross the board. I was having a mechanical miss you that was blowing my whole reason for driving an hour to ride and Jay took care of me had me out the door in 15 minutes and climbing Ocean Boulevard faster than my lungs were ready. Thank you so much!!! I highly recommend to anyone regardless of your cycling needs from beginner to expert it only took seconds for me to realize this is an ACE shop run by kind, smart, helpful and a myriad of other adjectives! Thanks...
