This used to be my go-to supermarket when I was in the area . Not anymore.
I hate this place with a passion. It's not it's fault it's in attleboro, but it is. You feel like you're going to get walked into every few minutes. Whatever - everyone eats and everyone buys groceries and that's a problem at most supermarkets - it's just a little worse in attleboro.
There's two huge problems with this place over the last few years. One is the shrinkwrapped steaks - they're terrible and I've had probably 25% come out of the package - after a 5 minute ride home - stinking like death.
Second and most importantly - the checkout situation. One human at a register with a line 6 people deep which pretty much forces you into self checkout. There's (at least) one employee working the self checkout checking for/accusing you of stealing hotdogs and buns because the registers don't work right.... Get on a register and do your job instead of making me do your job for you, and making me wait while you send someone over to correct the mistakes your register makes,
Never again. I can get everything I need at this cluster F of a supermarket at Seabra instead, for the same or better price, and their employees are awesome and I don't think I've ever had more than one person in line in front of me because they're more than willing to put a human on an additional register if...
Read moreI live less than a mile away and have recently had enough. I now only go there in an emergency. Shaw’s is only 2 miles away. That’s where I’ve started going for my real shopping. I’d prefer S&S but can’t take it. Things are marked out of stock even if they aren’t. But I can’t see the price because the “Temporarily out of stock” sign is in the way. Also the price you can aren’t reflective of what’s behind them.
The specialty cheeses are usually not priced. The deli has no service for salad. All are prepackaged, so choices are limited.
On 8/10, there was no cream of any type in dairy, and there was only one choice of half & half.
Cashier’s only acknowledgement of me was when she asked for my S&S card as she finished my order. Even then, no “thank you”, no “Have a nice day”. Nothing!
In the parking lot, carriage corrals are 11spaces away from either end of parking rows and only 20 in a row across. They are just as far from the handicapped parking Spaces. (No wonder people don’t put the carriages away.)
That was today. I never visit S&S on Pleassant St. in Attleboro without finding fault. Meanwhile the North Attleboro and South Attleboro stores are wonderful. Why is Pleasant such a mess?
I am not just a customer. I am someone who spent 22 years in the grocery store business. If I can see these problems, why can’t your store manager see them and resolve...
Read moreIt was a very disappointing experience with produce. The selection was small and in some cases subpar. In particular, the loose onions. The yellow onions very small and often damaged. Equally frustrating was their being mixed in with sweet onions. I know that seems like an insane complaint because an onion is an onion, right? Not really. If I tried to use a sweet onion in my recipe it would screw it up (too sweet, as you might guess).
The loose potatoes and sweet potatoes were likewise few in number and of questionable quality.
I was also surprised that they did not carry Asparagus or green beans (either loose and fresh or bagged and refrigerated). Those are pretty popular veggies.
The prices they demanded were also rather steep for what they offered.
Market Basket's produce tends not to last long, but I can always find what I need there, and as long as I use it in a day or two everything is fine. The only reason I didn't go there was because I had my young son in tow, and I didn't think he could deal with the Mad Max-like atmosphere of...
