Atown — Local services in Austin

Best, most baller, most "Find Something For Everyone On Your List" gift shop in Austin. And that fact that it's locally owned will make you feel good about supporting your local economy (as opposed to opening your Amazon app and ordering).

Like so many other reviewers have said, you might have a very difficult time with self control at Atown. You'll want to buy everything.

I'm so disheartened by this shop. It was adorable with such great items. However, when I went, I felt attacked for being Hispanic. Every 5 minutes I was shopping, a worker kept asking if they could hold my items that I was purchasing at the counter. They made me feel like a criminal and that I was going to steal something.

While, my boyfriend who was also shopping is Hispanic but has red hair and light skin was never once asked to hold his items at the counter. He was never even approached by anyone for 'help'. We even discussed this when we left together.

They also never asked any other person in the store to hold their items. I obviously was looking at how they treated other customers because I felt so uncomfortable. I will never be back to this store because I've never felt so discriminated against and uncomfortable in a store before.

Atown is one of my favorite stores in Austin! It's the store that I excitedly take everyone I know- both visiting from out of town, and locals- to if they've never been. The selection of goods are all made locally, in Austin, by regular, everyday people who want to sell what they enjoy creating. I actually hope to sell some of my own goods there eventually. ;) If you've never been, I can't stress enough that you MUST go!!! They have something for literally everyone; all ages, genders, sizes, styles. Their selection goes from nice clothes, to t-shirts, to Austin, TX memorabilia, to baby toys, to all kinds of books, to cards for every occasion, to skin care and jewelry, to household items.
