UPDATE: We returned to give it another try. The customer service was impeccably better. My boyfriend thanked the worker and told her how he appreciated her attention and positive demeanor and told her this was a far better experience than before. She stated there had been some staffing changes for improvement.
Now the customer service match the quality of the donuts. Good donuts, but rude customer service. My boyfriend and I came in yesterday afternoon. There was an employee at the window making donuts. We proceeded to the first register to wait to have our order taken. The employee stood at the last register and just looked at us(not saying a word). We looked at each other awkwardly for a few moments and then I realized she was waiting to take our order. We walked from the first register to the third where she was standing and she looked at us awkwardly again. I said "Hi" and waited for some kind of acknowledgement. Again she said nothing. The look and silence prompted me to just tell her my order. I told her my order, my boyfriend told her his order. She rung up the order , put the donuts in a bag and stood there again awkwardly silent. (During the whole interaction she was silent and did not say one word) I don't expect anyone to make superficial chit chat, but basic communication of how much the total is at least. My boyfriend paid and she walked away. We ate there and noticed she wasn't mute and actually talked to the newer customers after us. Oddly non-comminicative and seemingly annoyed (for no reason) employees will keep customers like myself and my boyfriend and our friends and family...
Read moreI'm allergic to strawberries. As a result, I exercise a lot of caution while in smoothie shops and bakeries. Smoothie people, as a rule, take allergies extremely seriously. Bakeries do not.
I searched their website for as much information as I could get before ordering. They don't have ingredients posted anywhere, and their allergy statement is "Our doughnuts may contain eggs, milk and dairy products, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, voodoo magic, and soy." How fun and light hearted!
Luckily, strawberries are expensive, so people usually brag about using them. This shop has exactly one item with Strawberry in the name - the Strawberry Go-Tart. That item isn't in any of their bundles. I ordered a Voodoo Dozen for us to split.
Anyway, today I'm grabbing a left over pastry. I take a bite out of an eclair covered with white icing and sprinkles. Wouldn't you know it - it's filled with a red paste with a flavor I don't recognize. I look up a picture of the Strawberry Go-Tart, and I somehow have one.
I called the store to ask if their filling uses real strawberries (as opposed to the artificial strawberry flavor a lot of people use that I'm not allergic to). The person on the phone hung up on me, and then on the second call seemed extremely confused by the entire question.
So, I've swallowed some benadryl after unswallowing the pastry, and I'm looking forward to a wild night. I'll try to approach it with the same whimsy and devil may care attitude that Voodoo Doughnuts apparently takes to...
Read moreThis donut shop is a good stop while in Austin if you want to try some different kinds of donuts. Many people rave about Voodoo Doughnuts and so we certainly wanted to give them a try. We however, are hot donut eaters. And everything they had here was cool. So for us that wasn't our jam. But that doesn't mean it's not yours! The donuts are ready and incredibly sweet. They have a variety of different kinds of donut choices. I love to get the donut called chuckles. It's a chocolate donut with peanuts and caramel drizzled over the top. It is so good. My kids of course love the white Oreo version. It's called dirt and those were our favorites. There are some adult type donuts in the shop, so if you're taking small kiddos in you might want to be aware. We paid $29.95 for our order of donuts in the box shown in the pictures. It's a great first time experience, but for us I think we'll go the hot route next time. But there are folks that absolutely adore this donut shop. Certainly a taste adventure as you try the different donuts that they offer. Grape ape I believe is one of our favorites. It's a sweet grape donut with a sour powder side as well. It's different but that's what you're going for if you're...
