I hesitate to write this review because I know it’ll bring more attention to him, but it’s only fair to share my experience: I had two ankle surgeries, the second one due to my body reacting poorly to the metal which is rare.
He could have let me suffer but he didn’t.
He is an excellent surgeon with a bedside manner that’s above average, especially considering his busy schedule.
He truly has a teacher's heart; you can ask him questions without any hint of annoyance or frustration.
When choosing a surgeon for ankle surgery, patients should consider the following factors:
Specialization: Look for a surgeon who specializes in orthopedic foot and ankle surgery. Their expertise can significantly impact the outcome. He’s definitely experienced.
Experience: Consider the surgeon's experience with ankle surgeries, including the number of procedures performed and their outcomes. Considering my type of fracture. I’m happy to be walking again with a slight limp only when I’m fatigued. And the office has a nice physical therapy clinic too.
Board Certification: Verify that the surgeon is board-certified in orthopedic surgery, which indicates they have met specific training and competency standards. Yes he has.
Reputation: Research the surgeon’s reputation through online reviews, patient testimonials, and word-of-mouth recommendations. I hope my review gives you confidence to meet him.
Hospital Affiliation: Look into the quality of the hospital or surgical center where the surgeon practices. High-rated facilities often offer better care and resources. They have their own surgical center.
Communication Style: Assess how well the surgeon communicates. They should be willing to answer questions, explain procedures clearly, and make you feel comfortable. Yes!!!!
Post-Surgery Care: Inquire about the follow-up care and rehabilitation process. A good surgeon should be involved in your recovery. He has physician assistants helping so there’s always an expert on call.
Surgical Techniques: Ask about the surgical techniques they use, including minimally invasive options, if applicable, as these can lead to quicker recovery times. Because of how both sides of my ankle fractured, my surgery required more work but I’ve heard that mine was simple because it wasn’t crushed.
Personal Comfort: Trust your instincts. You should feel comfortable and confident in your surgeon's ability to address your specific needs. Yes I do feel comfortable.
Insurance and Costs: Check whether the surgeon is in-network with your insurance and understand the costs associated with the procedure. This is a must.
Taking the time to evaluate these factors can help ensure a successful surgery and a smoother recovery process. I didn’t know all of this when my journey began. Hope this...
Read moreFrom my encounter with Earl Kilbride, he is a narcissistic orthopedic surgeon who SELECTIVELY maltreats some patients based on class, race, and gender. I would not recommend him to ANYONE.
I fell on 5/27/23 and dislocated my right ankle. When I arrived at the hospital, x-rays were taken. The attending ER physician Dr. Crislip, on-call surgeon Dr. Kilbride, radiologist concluded that I ALLEGEDLY had a trimalleolar fracture. However, NONE of the doctors previously mentioned CONSULTED me PRIOR to the surgery on 5/28/23. I had no proof or evidence that I had trimalleolar fracture; except the WORD of the physicians. As the patient, I was entitled to a second opinion. I have the RIGHT to CONSULT with another physician. I also had the right to elect to NOT have the surgery.
Earl Kilbride also DID NOT provide an outline of the surgery procedure that he was performing including my post-op recovery timeline. My hospital post-op visit with Earl Kilbride lasted less than 20 seconds, which should be a Guinness Book record. During this visit, he still DID NOT show me my X-ray images before and after the surgery. On 6/12/23, I had a post-op appointment with Kilbride in his office and I waited over 45 minutes to be seen by him. He still DID NOT show me ALL x-ray images of my foot and ankle. Kilbride also couldn't tell me why my right foot is now wider than left foot when I asked him. I told him it was never like that before this surgery. Nor could he explain why my right leg doesn't align (parallel) with my left leg when I stand up.
On 7/9/23 during emergency room visit for continuous swelling, pain, & a slight infection, I was finally SHOWN the X-rays taken that day 7/9/23. It's been 9 weeks and 3 days (66 days) and Kilbride has NOT shown me my X-ray images. Kilbride's FAILURE to CONSULT and show me my X-rays PRIOR to the surgery leads me to believe that the surgery was UNNECESSARY. :-(

Read moreI recently had the privilege of undergoing two separate knee replacement surgeries with Dr. Kilbride, and my experience has been nothing short of exceptional. With over 20 years of experience, top honors, and prestigious leadership positions, Dr. Kilbride’s qualifications speak for themselves, but it was his personalized care that truly exceeded my expectations.
From the moment I arrived at the office of Austin Orthopedics Institute, the staff provided outstanding service, beginning with the receptionists who greeted me in a warm and friendly manner.
Dr. Kilbride’s attention to details is exceptional. Special recognition goes to Erica McClarty for her stellar communication, follow-through, and genuine compassion—she made the entire process smoother and more comforting. Before surgery, a recumbent bike was delivered to my home, allowing Dr. Kilbride to monitor my rehab progress closely, ensuring the success of my recovery.
On surgery day, Dr. Kilbride personally met with me beforehand, answered all my questions, and gave me complete peace of mind. Post-surgery, he continued to provide exceptional care, discussing my case in detail and ensuring everything went smoothly. His Physician Assistant, Chad Fontana, was outstanding and deserves special recognition. Personable and encouraging during office visits, he ensured all my needs were met throughout hospital recovery and rehab. I can’t say enough about how much he contributed to making this process smoother and more positive.
Dr. Kilbride and his team receive a solid 5-star rating for their professionalism, communication, and dedication to patient care. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon or team, and I’m grateful for the exceptional care I received. Highly...
