This is going to be long, because I have a long history with Madelon/Salon Rose. TL;DR - amazing stylist, amazing staff, amazing salon, good location, don't hesitate to try them out!!
I have been seeing Madelon Sanabria (owner of Salon Rose) for years. I started seeing her specifically because I wanted to go from my salon-dyed dark brown hair (natural medium brown) to silver/platinum. She took me slowly (over a couple of appointments) and safely to an icy blonde that I was surprised I loved so much --- so much that I held off on going silver/gray and then instead decided to have fun with color melts. For over a year, she did a number of color melts on me... pinks, purples, peaches, blues... i loved them ALL. Then, I decided I was done spending so much time and money at the salon, so she brought me to a natural ginger that is SO gorgeous, I still (after having the color for a couple years now) get compliments on weekly. Lots of friends have told me this is MY color and I should never change it.
So, because I can't resist spending too much money on my hair, I had Madelon give me extensions! She does hot head extensions and she custom died mine to match my color and she always matched it perfectly. I loved my extension and kept them in for over a year (and even though they're only supposed to be moved up a couple times each, I think I went almost two years with just two different sets, in part because I took meticulous care of them and bc Madelon is so good at removing/retaping them). They looked 100% natural and again, I almost got tired of all the compliments I got :P
Then, my hair got long enough that I was able to take a break from extensions... but not for long - I got engaged and then decided I wanted longer hair for the wedding. This time, Madelon ordered a hot heads hair band for me and custom colored it again. And again, did a perfect job. This is a band style extension that is more flexible - long hair one day, shorter hair the next - you can just put it on when you're in the mood for it.
I trusted Madelon to do my hair and makeup for the wedding... for all those pictures that would be around forever. SHE KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK. I hate pictures of me, but I am obsessed with my wedding pics, not in the least bc she did such an amazing job. Madelon worked so well with me to understand my vision and bring it to life completely. Again, people at the wedding were bowled over by the look and it held up allllll night. A June wedding in Austin meant it was near 100 degrees and our ceremony was outside. Then we danced all night and went out after. Hair and makeup held up GREAT.
And aside from the talent, Madelon is such a sweet person, fun to talk to but not so chatty that you can't relax, if that's what you want to do. She listens, she constantly strives to make sure you're happy when you hop up out of her chair until you come back in next time. She hires good people who are nice, fun, funny and attentive. Her salon is decorated beautifully and it's an open and welcoming space.
Cannot recommend Madelon/Salon...
Read moreThey destroyed my hair. I went in to get an ombre with Tara. During the process, she became concerned with what was happening with my hair and the foils. So, she quickly took them off and rinsed my hair off. She told me my hair wasn't damaged and it was just that it wasn't going to be as bright as I wanted. That was, unfortunately, a lie. My hair was so damaged that chunks fell out the next day.
When it happened, Tara and another hair stylist explained that sometimes their chemicals react like that with hair that had been dyed previously. They also mentioned it'd happened plenty of times before and that there was a simple wash which could have prevented such a reaction. However, they'd never asked me any questions about my hair history before the procedure (and I'd never had my hair "react" with salon products). They even seemed to imply it was my fault that my hair must have had something on it.
The funny thing was, the last time I put any dye on my hair was five months ago, and it was a one week temporary dye (they said this was definitely the culprit). I have shampooed and conditioned many times since then.
I didn't realize how bad my hair was damaged while I was at the salon, as it was loaded with gels, toner, and then blow dried. It was somewhat puffy and frizzy after being blow dried, but I never blow dry my hair, so I figured that was simply the reason why. The next day, with all the heavy gels and creams washed out, my hair was a mess.
I've had to get a different hair appointment with a different salon to cut off about half of my hair, because of how severely it was burned.
To make matters worse, this salon has dodged my calls and emails. I've been told I need to speak to the manager, but the manager seems to be ignoring me. I'm extremely frustrated considering how expensive this hair treatment was and how terribly it was done.
I do not recommend this salon. There are so many other salons out there that will not wreck your hair and...
Read moreSalon Rosé is a beautiful and clean salon with a welcoming vibe. A south Austin GEM! There’s a myriad of beautiful ivy’s and wax plants lining the walls and the shelves. I personally love this touch. There’s some really great, locally sourced artwork on the walls, of course! They always call to remind me of my appointment ahead of time and they don’t make me feel dumb when I second guess my appointment time, and call (or email) for another reminder anyway! Marty at the front desk is a favorite of mine! The real deal, the real reason I am her today- Kayla Peacock, y’all!! If you are looking for a gray blend, LOOK NO FURTHER! Hands down, is the most honest and professional hair tech I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. It took my first appointment with her, just getting a desperately needed cut and shape, that I decided she was the one! She didn’t know it yet, but I trusted her to take me from my partially natural graying roots (with a terrible, box dye residual color, sooo old but still there!) to a beautiful, evenly toned, gray and brunette blend. It’s out of this world!! I have the hair Ive wanted for the first time in my life! She explains her process, she is laser focused even when I babble too much. She is gentle, thorough and genuinely engaged with what you want for your hair. She also is cost conscious, she wants to find the color job that works for your lifestyle and she considers how much maintenance you might need in the future. She asks all the right questions. Kayla, will you be my hair savior, razor sorceress and divine colorer for the rest...
