I’d initially given a five star review but the last few times I’ve been in here, it’s been different. The cashiers aren’t openly rude but on at least two occasions I’ve been made to feel like a bother. I do mask in public. I have tattoos. Maybe that contributes, maybe not. I haven’t experienced anything outright rude yet, hence the three stars, but im not as quick to stop in as I used to be either.
FINALLY PROVED RIGHT- I was shopping the other day and a new cashier tried to tell me I had to take my mask off to purchase wine. (The only thing I ever bother to come in there for any more. For anything else I drive to Walmart and probably will go to Walmart for wine after this as well)💀 first of all, I had my ID out before i was even asked, second of all after I told her she can just compare the neck tattoos and she glanced down and said no, I need to just take the mask off (which if there’s someone wandering around that looks like me enough to my exact same tattoos visible on their drivers license, taking a mask off isn’t going to tell you which of us is which) and then tried to tell me I needed to find someone else to help me. Mind you, I did just that and her own coworker said she had no idea what Debra was talking about. Anyhow. I knew there was something funny going on, just no one was bold enough to come right out with some nonsense like that until now.
To the owner: I did call in and tried to talk to a manager after being convinced to not let it go by my mother. The manager was nice but it was obvious he thought the whole thing was hilarious. I was told he’d talk to her. Debra doesn’t need to know why I wear the mask, but she has absolutely no authority to ask anyone to take it off and if that’s what she learned to do in training, she needs to...
Read moreSo I would not have believed this, if I had not witnessed it, and heard it with my own eyes and ears ….. I was at KJ‘s IGA in Aynor this morning at 11:25. I was in line at the deli , and the man ahead of me, which was a friend of mine, got refused of an eight piece fried chicken. To no fault of the elderly lady that was working the register she asked him where they not any eight pieces under the warmer at that moment, he explained to her no mam. She asked the young lady at the deep fryer how long it would be for more chicken to be done. The lady said at least 45 minutes. The man then asked the elderly lady could he just get eight pieces of chicken that was already cooked in the deli which me and him both clearly saw that at least 50 pieces of chicken were done . It’s not like he was asking for all 50 pieces he just wanted eight pieces of chicken for his family and they refused to give it to him. And to top that off the lady frying more chicken said out loud she was not dealing with that today. My hat is off to him for telling him thank you and hope yall have a day. I really feel sorry for the elderly lady that was working the register this morning but with that being said, I love this small town, but I will refuse to ever do business at this grocery store again. PS I support all our local businesses, but KJ’s is not locally owned, nor...

— nothing has changed. All of the chicken is listed at bargain price today and the whole meat area smells so bad we had to wash our hands and leave the store. This is absolutely embarrassing and to be honest, it’s completely disrespectful to have a grocery store ran and operated this way when it’s literally our only option. Bought “boneless, skinless” chicken breast last week and there was still bones inside every breast along with bone fragments throughout the package. Unfortunately, none of these complaints are single occasions.

Wouldnt call this a “hometown grocery store” as they scalp the locals daily simply because there is no other option within 13 miles. The prices at this store are 50% higher than other local grocery stores. A $6.89 pack of yogurt at KJ’s is $3.40 at other places. Buying butter here will bankrupt you. The brand selections are abhorrent and comparable to dollar general, the produce is really really bad and minimal. Fresh parsley (when they have it) is constantly drenched in whatever they spray & wilting. Brand new unopened bag of cheese filled with mold on multiple occasions (most likely due to lack of education on food safety & having refrigerated items sitting out in the aisles). Take the extra 20 minutes and go somewhere else. You’ll save major dollars and have a much...
