Context - visiting family while in town from ATL. Had my 15yr old daughter with me. She is a 10-12 handicap and plays fast. A good player
Glows- the young man in the clubhouse is incredibly kind and welcoming. He was very accommodating and made my daughter feel welcome. Good hire by the city. He makes a difference.
Several of the holes were closed down due to heavy rains so we had to play a modified 9holes and if you wanted to play 18 you simply repeated the same 9. We got rained out after 9 holes the first day but he gave us a rain check so we came back the next day. The rates were very reasonable and although the greens have recently been aerated they were beginning to fill back in. Not hard to see where the greens would be fast and the highlights of this public course. In my opinion, if you have great greensā¦you can have a great public course.
Grows: All of us have room to grow. This course is no exception.
In summary, if you are willing to ignore your watch, once the greens fill in, you will get a nice staff and a fun round of golf for a good rate. Donāt expect a plush round of private golf but you can expect a fun day of golf with greens that have a chance to be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a Donald Ross Public Golf Course. Because it is public and not fenced the general public can walk it if they check in with the Pro Shop. The staff at the Pro Shop and Mulligan's are friendly and welcoming. One doesn't need to be a golfer to have a good breakfast or unch here from inside you get a good view of the course. I do like the course layout with it's side fairways. This course is very popular with Jr. golfers and high school students from Bartow High as well as some College Students. A lot of Seniors call the "Tow" there home course as well as I do because easier to get to than ones located elsewhere in Polk County. Mulligan's is now serving Friday night dinners. They stop serving at 4:00. My review is on my 2 recent visits. I just went there to practice on the range. An added feature to the driving range is there is now yardage marker range signs. In years past it was just a yellow flag that one would aim at at 140 yds. The driving range gets alot of daily use so it's kept up with sand to fill In the divots. So tees are really helpful however because in parts of it, it isn't all flat with old divots which can lead to not having good footing on a swing. I like the course layout but I can't review it because I haven't played it in years. Divots are filled in with sand. All of Florida is in a drought this time of year so fairways going be hard. Those looking to play a championship golf course this isn't it but BCC provides affordable rates for all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe don't get out to golf as much as we would like. Work schedules and llife in general keep us pretty busy. But this is a vacation week and we schedule a round to take out the frustrations on those poor little white balls. Nice course. Old with history (Don Ross design). Nice staff and carts in good condition. The course is suffering form the current drought a little. Pretty hard packed in all areas. Nice wide open fairways though. If you can keep it straight, you can score well. If you deviate, you're screwed. Trees and hard pack areas will challenge even the best to get up and down. Those greens remind me of a course back in Ohio called Minerva Park. Turtle shell domes that allow the ball to run over, off, back...you get the point. Tough pin placements too. By the way, don't get cute around those greens, there are no shortage of green protecting bunkers! Trust me, I found 4 of them. We enjoyed our day, even though it was hot as **. We will be back for...
