My partner and I went up to Atlantic City and, as I always do when on trips out of town, I sought out the closest record store in hopes of giving and receiving. This place seems unassuming when you see it online, but then comes into better focus when you see the storefront and it's relics. Inside, it is pretty much a physical media wonderland. Every town needs one, but not all are so lucky to have one. I have been to many and this place is a precious gem that should be cherished.
Records, tapes, books, CDs, and a very knowledgeable curator (Steve or Steven...I forgot which he went by). Apparently video games too. The selection was honestly overwhelming, which is good.
I bought several things and on the drive home would come to regret NOT buying other things. This is to say that I made a purchase I had been recently fixated on and should have put it aside to focus on the more rare inventory since this place had such an abundance of it. All the same, I was happy with the things I did buy, including some 45s I hadn't anticipated.
However, the best part of this experience was getting turned on to local music from that area that I otherwise may not have given a second thought to. Steve (or Steven? Sorry) was knowledgeable of it and passed along some local recommendations that really stuck with me. Now I listen to Solo for Dolo in my basement and Jesus Johnny in my car; enough to learn the lyrics of several songs. These things have gotten the most play of everything I obtained there, in fact. Something new to grow knowledge of.
I live in the southeast USA but tend to travel to the northeast with some regularity for one reason or another. Next time I am between Philly and NYC, I will likely make it a point to stop in here along the way. Maybe next time I can pick up things I should have gotten the first time through. Or something else of equal distinction, as I now see so much excellent stuff come through there via their Instagram account. I definitely aim to mine some more Jesus Johnny...
Read moreI love this place so much! I try to make a trip every month or so to add to my collection. I’m new to music collecting, only been at it for around four years, but this is my go to store. The owner is so kind and always seems to recognize me. I’m younger and really into older music, and all kinds- here I’ve found countless records I can’t find other places. I’ve got Beatles, Billy Joel, Bread, The Cars, Springsteen, Journey, Zeppelin- that’s only a bit! There’s so much to choose from- lots of rock, folk, alternative, new wave, what have you. I’ve never left empty handed. Great prices and even though everything is used, it’s always in great condition, I’ve never bought a bad or damaged record or CD. Plus, there’s books and movies and collectibles, and tons of older tech and audio system stuff for people who collect. I tell everyone looking for a new spot to come here, and as a local I can say it’s my favorite place around. Just today I found some music I’ve been looking for, and most of my stock is all from here. I absolutely recommend stopping in, you’re gonna find something awesome! I hope to keep coming back for...
