I felt a very dark and uncomfortable vibe from the woman who introduced herself to me as the owner. The building itself is spacious as well as clean, noticed the staff up front cleaning and were extremely friendly. The sandwich I purchased was made on hot fresh bread and excellent service. Woman at the cashiers station and deli were very busy both were working hard and seemed very kind. The temperature on the other hand was on another level of hell. When my wife asked said owner about the air conditioning she asked us to sit in the Cafe where it was much cooler.. I assume that's where her office is or her workers that she cares about are..because not only are these dangerous working conditions for staff but the food was going bad. I saw that the items I purchased the week prior from the deli were moved and I saw the meat in the front case had started to turn colors. I also purchased a salad made with mayonnaise that my wife felt very sick after consuming. I was surprised that the owner blamed her landlord for an air conditioning problem being as though it is a commercial rental and renters typically cover the expenses. Either way the idea of this in our neighborhood is wonderful yet the attitude of the woman I met who prompted me to E mail about the temperature was very dry and sarcastic and could be seen speaking poorly and rudely to others as well as rolling her eyes and clapping her hands together loudly... yet forcing a fake phony smile through clenched teeth. I know that this type of business isn't for everyone but if she doesn't have a passion for food service she should try another profession. I will not be back because of her attitude but the boars head products the bread and the packaged goods were wonderful. This is constructive criticism and not to be rude. Sometimes an open mind towards opinions of your customers can motivate you to change a few things. I've lived in ocean county for 52 years and I've seen many businesses come and go. If you want to succeed you need to do more than be fake and phony to push expensive products on people. It seems you have a lack of workers relying soley on a couple of workers and I can see why everytime I come back it...
Read moreOk, so this was my second time shopping here. I went when they had their soft opening and it was horrible. As a native New Yorker from Brooklyn who grew up in an Italian family, I was disappointed to see how little of a selection they had. The few things I bought were not even close to authentic Italian food. If you know good Italian food , you know it's hard to find and near to non-existant in NJ. When I saw they moved locations, I gained some hope that maybe they got their act together since the soft opening. I guess I should say I went in skeptical and the first thing I noticed was their barely there bakery. It's hidden in a back room which is weird and it's a small space to say the least. You can't have more than 2 or 3 people in there at a time without feeling claustrophobic. Next observation was sadly, their case of cookies / pastries was small and very basic. They had no canolis and in fact opened someone else's order to give me some. I also bought seven layer cookies and "S" cookies. Both of which were not the correct flavor. I was so disappointed when I ate the canoli and the shells were too thick and burnt and the cream was loaded with the flavor of cinnamon which was all I tasted . It was gross. The cookies were way too sweet and didn't taste like authentic Italian cookies. Next I have to mention the sausage bread. I bought one during Christmas from shoprite and it was delicious. When my daughter saw the sausage bread at CF she asked if I could buy it so I did. My whole family noted that it had a funny taste and the one from shoprite was better. Their prices are crazy high considering the quality. I don't mind paying well for something good and I'd be the first one to go back and buy more. But the reality is I won't be going back. If you are like me and want the stuff you remember from NY ,you won't...
