I have been a fan of April's work for many years. I had the privilege of meeting her and seeing her store and studio when I was living in the Bay Area and doing some writing about jewelry design (and being a novice jewelry maker). April has an incredible touch in designing unique pieces ... bold, yet delicate, rustic, yet refined. It takes such nuanced talent to walk those lines. As a fan of good design, I was delighted to meet one of my heroes. And she was so kind to me and seemed so pleased with my interest in her work.

Recently, now back in Ohio, my fiancé and were able to work with April remotely to design my engagement ring and our wedding bands. She immediately seemed to "get" us. She could not have been more personable and professional in her communications with us. And, let's face it, April did not have to take on the extra inconvenience of working with people in Ohio. But she did it to make us happy. And she has added to my life one of the most beautiful objects I have ever had the pleasure to call my own - my green sapphire engagement ring.

If you are lucky enough to be nearby, go to her store and enjoy the quiet, gorgeous atmosphere. And ask questions! The staff knows so much about gems and artists and fabrication ... it will be a fascinating conversation. And if you don't live in the Bay Area, take a look online or reach out. A lovely little gem I found out shopping a few weeks ago. It could be easy to pass by if you're on the go. Once you're buzzed in, you'll be happy you stopped. Unique decor with art displayed throughout. I don't know why, but I want to say I got Brooklyn vibes. Lovely display cases tastefully arranged throughout the shop, with vaulted ceilings. I had the pleasure of meeting Fatemeh and expert advice. I wasn't out particularly looking for jewelry. I discovered an artist they have work from, Alexis Pavlantos. Beautiful works of art! Totally captivating! I fell in love with a silver ring called "litterfall" . It was adjusted on sight for my finger. Very cheery experience, fabulous customer service. I have been buying Jewelry from Shibumi Gallery for years and love the ambiance of the store, the beautifully curated pieces and the exquisite workmanship of the jewelry they feature. In particular, the work by April Higashi is outstanding and some of the pieces I wear every single day are her rare, and beautifully designed work. The staff is friendly, helpful but not too intrusive -all in all it is a great experience to shop there. Cannot say enough good things about this...
