Viking Trader — Local services in Berkeley

We bought a Luonto Queen size loveseat sleeper from Viking Trader of whom I am a repeat customer. This is a couch that folds out into a bed. When we tried to use the bed, as soon as we put our weight on it near the head, the bed surface ruptured wherein a bottom cushion caved in, hitting the floor, creating a cavity in the bed surface. Upon closer inspection we found a manufacturers defect in that the shelf mechanism that the head and middle cushion rest on that make for a flatbed surface, were too small. As soon as you put weight on it, it slipped causing the cushion to fall into the floor resulting in a cavity in the bed surface. We contacted Viking Trader and they sent someone out. They had a terrible attitude and despite our demonstrating the defect, they were unwilling to take the product back. They said that they could attach another leg underneath to eliminate the problem. As an engineer I could see that would be impossible with a fold out mechanism built of metal framing and springs. I am extremely dissatisfied with Viking Trader and was surprised how condescending, flippant, and cavalier they were of me, a repeat customer no less. They just lost a loyal customer and I will tell everyone I know to avoid...

Viking Trader is such a great find if you're into warm, lived-in pieces with character. I stopped in just to browse and ended up walking out with a solid wood dresser that fits my space perfectly.

The price was more than reasonable for the quality. I also appreciated that the staff didn't hover but were available when I had questions about materials and care. Have a vintage Westnofa Siesta chair/ottoman that was missing some hardware. Both employees I spoke with were both knowledgeable and helpful. Took time to understand my need.
