Bargain Mart — Local services in Big Spring

This is a salvage grocery, so expect a salvage grocery. I live close by and go in several times a week so that I don't miss something spectacular. I have found blackberries and raspberries 3- 6 oz pkgs for $1, smoked salmon (frozen) 4 oz for $1, Dunkin Donuts coffee for $.99, gallon size cans (beans, tomatoes, sliced olives, even coconut milk) as low as $.99. These are the best bargains. But most any day I can find good quality bread or raisin bread for $1, shredded collard greens $.19/lb, Vortman cookies $.99/package. I feed my family from this store, and supplement with Porter's (which is, btw, a great regular grocery store). I probably spend less than half what I spent before I found this little gem. All that said, I don't buy lunchmeat here. But then again, I don't buy lunchmeat anywhere, that stuff is dog food. I check closely everything I purchase, and every once in a while I don't like something and toss it. But the overall savings are...

I am a big fan of discount grocery stores like this. We travel a lot and I'm always on the lookout for them in our travels. I understand that many items are close to or have exceeded their expiration dates at these stores but this one seems to sell things that are way outdated. I did not realize until I got home that I was sold cottage cheese that expired over six months ago and yogurt that expired over five months ago. These items went right into the trash because they had a bad odor. If you shop here just make sure to check expiration dates especially on extremely reduced items. They obviously are aware of the dates since they are marking these items...

An expired can is still good for a long, long time. I have bought hundreds, maybe thousands of expired cans and have never had a problem. (Read on the internet about it.). I have eaten a ton of meat and dairy products out of the meat case here and it has always been great. They arrive at the store frozen and thawed before placing it in the case. Actually, once in a while I've found some meat a little bit frozen in the case. This place is a very popular, which proves that it's a great place. Yes, the bread on the back wall is pretty stale and other little things but count all...
