I went here for my bachelorette party and it was the best day of my life! Everyone was so amazing, knowledgable, and excited to show us around, especially Aries (our tour guide) and Cale (the venom manager).
Before our tour started we met and held Ken, the albino king snake. We met Spud, the capybara, and gave him some treats. Then we saw some turtles, an otter, foxes, and so many tortoises (with more personality than I was expecting!).
After that, we made our way to the venomous snake area, which I was most excited about, and it was heaven. There were tons of rattlesnakes, exotic species, and a small glimpse of the snakes that weren't ready to be on display. They had so many snakes that I'd only read about or seen pictures online, and Cale answered all of our questions. The snakes were so beautiful, and you could tell they really cared about them all and were super knowledgable. Cale even pulled out the Gaboon Viper for us to see (behind glass of course), and gave me a fang that he found while cleaning the enclosure.
After we'd had our fill of venomous snakes, we moved on to the alligators, crocodiles, and other things like snapping turtles. Aries told us all about the different species, their mannerisms, and backstories about each animal.
Finally, we ended in the barn, where they had non-venomous snakes, and an assortment of other creatures (chameleons, monitors, spiders, scorpions). We held Tangle, the ball python, while Aries told us all about the animals in the barn.
TLDR: My visit to the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary was so amazing, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone interested in snakes (especially venomous or exotic ones). They have a ton of other animals, so you can even bring along your friends that aren't into snakes. Everyone who worked here was so knowledgable about the animals and even more excited to share their love of the...
Read moreI can't give enough stars!! I found the PHS while looking for a reptile show to book for my son's 6th birthday party. I inquired about a few other businesses, then found the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary. I'm so happy I did! THEY WERE AWESOME. From the get go even booking the event they were so kind. Compared to the other two business I dealt with, they made everything so easy and were so nice. Chelsea was awesome on the phone (I'm chelsea too so we had a good laugh). I actually had to reschedule because my child was sick, and they were so understanding and accommodating. For the actual show, Sammie was wonderful. She was so kind and patient with the kids. Of course the kids needed reminders of how to handle the animals, and she handled it with so much patience. The kids LOVED it and so did the adults. It was very interactive, fun, and informative. It made me so happy to that I was supporting a business that rescued and adopted the animals as well. Not to mention they were truly the most reasonably priced. I cannot say enough kind things about the Sanctuary, and I will be singing their praises to everyone!...
Read moreWe booked a 5-person 2-hour private tour for my daughter’s 8th birthday. We got a little turned around on the way there and were a few minutes late, however, we were still given the full two hours. 😅
Isabel was our guide, and she was very attentive to the girls, especially the birthday girl. They were able to hold a lizard, tortoises, and at least 7 different snakes.
The facility itself seems clean and well-run with occasional mammals in addition to reptiles and amphibians. The snake collection is impressive with many non-native venomous species, as well as large snakes including a long reticulated python and a massive anaconda. We didn’t have time to closely look at everything because there was so much to see!
Little moments made the day extra special such as feeding salamanders and being able to take home snake sheds from an eyelash viper and an equatorial spitting cobra.
I highly recommend this tour for any snake aficionados and even those who are a little intimidated by them. Isabel chose animals that were easy to handle and helped even our most hesitant party member...
