Extra Space Storage — Local services in Bluffdale

4th extra space location I've used in the past couple years. Not a bad location, but I had a weird interaction with the staff here. While in the process of moving all of my furniture into the unit, as well as working graveyard shifts, I was exhausted and accidentally fell asleep in my car while in the extraspace parkinglot. The manager woke me up and I was very apologetic and explained my circumstances, and that it was an accident. He seemed flustered with the whole interaction and told me I've been loitering on their property constantly over the past few days and that if they catch me here again I will be getting evicted. I again apologized and explained that I was moving my belongings into my unit and that's why I had been there so many times in a few days, and that i obviously wouldn't want to purposely fall asleep in a parkinglot. He said that I was lying and they have the gate code records and have me on camera just "hanging out". Almost yelled while telling me not to lie and that I will be evicted if im here for more than 30 minutes at a time. I had talked to this dude before this incident and I'm assuming he was just having a bad day because he was very nice to me when I first got my unit the week or so before this incident. I understand they can't have people hanging out in the facilities, but this interaction was unreasonably hostile and disrespectful. He made it seem like I was just a bum trying to use their parkinglot as a hang out spot. Hopefully the guy sorts out whatever was going so bad in his day so he doesn't treat other paying customers like scumbags.

Overall the facility is nice and I only had the one bad interaction, and even though it was unacceptable, it doesn't seem fair to rate the entire place too low. If this has never happened I would rate this...

Property is clean and well-kept. Management is responsive and helpful. I researched a lot of different options for storing things and feel the most comfortable storing my things here. Would recommend!

2-28-22 Update: Updating my review (reducing 2 stars) based on misleading dealing/communication from management.

I received a message from this property's management that a $25 fee that was levied on my account a month ago would be reversed if I would leave a review. I did so but when the fee still showed up on my account, I called in to get it reversed, referencing the text conversation.

I was told that they would not reverse the fee despite the earlier communication that they would.

This experience smells of shady management tactics.

When I asked for evidence for the justification of the fee being levied against me, they are unable to share any record or evidence of the complaint, requiring that I take them at their word (my moving trailer blocked another customer's access to their unit when I wasn't on the property (a moving company was delayed in removing the trailer)). While it very well may be true that a complaint was lodged, an inability to share any record of it (or a lack of calling me at the time of the complaint) makes me question its legitimacy.

Tread carefully when renting from this company/location. The people working here are nice people and my original review stands in part - the property is clean and well-maintained (earning 3 stars). However, a broken commitment from management has soured the customer experience for me.

My situation is a unique one and you may have a great experience renting from here. However, given the common complaint in the storage unit space of shady fees/rate increases, this experience seems to fit into that...

I moved into my storage unit 10/03/25. Great move in! The two gentlemen were great. I came back 10/4/25 pulled in and realized I didn’t have my unit key. I called the front office to ask if there was a master key or spare key the facility may have. The individual working the front office immediately became rude. She then went on to say it was against the law for storage facilities to have such a thing. I explained to her this was not correct. She freaked out and started yelling! Screaming I can’t tell her how to do her job and she wasn’t going to argue with me. I said ma’am I’m just trying to let you know it isn’t against the law. Thanked her for her time and ended the call. I walked to the front office to sit and wait for my ride to come instead of me moving my truck since I live 2 miles away. She started yelling again! I said ma’am I was just trying to let you know that what you said was incorrect, why are you so angry? She went on another screaming rant. I said ma’am whatever you’re going through I hope it gets better. She then said her boss told her it was against the law and if I keep speaking she will have me arrested! I said ma’am you are more than welcome to call the police but I’m telling you that you were just misinformed. I also mentioned it’s ok to be wrong and corrected without feeling attacked. She called everyone she can think of including the police. I really hope she doesn’t have this interaction with someone else. It could result in a situation where she would actually need an officer. Again this has nothing to do with the guys that help initially. I also believe this wasn’t her home location and maybe just didn’t want to be at work which isn’t an excuse for poor...
