Formal Complaint: Poor Customer Service at Planet Fitness
Date: September 18, 2024, between the hours of 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Location: Planet Fitness - Clemson Road
I am writing to express my disappointment with the poor customer service I received during my recent visit to Planet Fitness. On September 18, 2024, I encountered an issue with the non-functional cooling system in the gym.
Upon arrival, the staff member (a black lady with two cornrow braids) approached me and inquired about the gym being hot. I shared my experience with the problem from the previous day (September 17, 2024), and she seemed concerned and pleasant.
However, when I later mentioned the ongoing issue (as she casually walked the floor) and inquired about the cooling system being fixed, her demeanor shifted. Her tone became dismissive and annoyed, giving the impression that I was inconveniencing her.
Specifically, she stated that she couldn't guarantee the system would be fixed by the next day, seemingly playing semantics with the term 'fixed.' When I politely addressed her tone, she abruptly ended our conversation and walked away.
Although I appreciated her message about the A/C being looked at on tomorrow, I was taken aback by this sudden change in attitude, especially since our initial interaction had been cordial.
Unfortunately, this experience is consistent with my previous interactions at Planet Fitness, where convenience is the sole reason I continue my membership.
Recommendation:
Prospective customers should exercise caution and consider alternative gyms like YMCA, MUV, or Planet Fitness (specifically West Columbia or Two Notch) which prioritize customer service.
Suggested Resolution:
Staff training on effective communication and customer service. Improved maintenance and prompt issue resolution.

Read moreI went in to tan and needed to update my credit/debit card from my card being lost. Leroy said they only take debit payments so, I had to enter my PIN number. For security and bank points I only run my credit/debit card as a credit and not a debit transaction. He insisted their system only takes debit payments and I would need to enter my pin to update my card and pay my balance from last month. I explained to him I’ve updated my bank card not long ago and was able to run it as a credit. Thirty minutes later he changes my account to add the new card and it showed pending on my bank online. He said he updated it but, I wouldn’t be able to use the gym until the payment processed and that’s up to my bank! I’ve never had this issue with this store or other planet fitness locations when I’ve updated my bank card! It would be beneficial to train Leroy on how to update a customers bank card so they can sign as I’ve done before at the Camden location and this Clemson location. He was not willing to call another store for help and mgt wasn’t in. Leroy also doesn’t understand what is meant when I asked if any of the tanning bed had gotten new bulbs lately. He repeatedly said Bed 3 is down but all the bulbs are working on bed 2. I tried to explain that’s not what I’m asking. Are the bulbs new or when were they last replaced? I have a black membership to tan and the bulbs in the beds are old and do not tan you. I’ve driven to Camden several times because they update their bulbs in the beds. He couldn’t figure out what I meant or maybe he was just being difficult. Either way, please train your employees so, they’re knowledgeable of the system and provide good customer service. Read moreThis location is a money scam and filled with steroid users that staff will point out to you. I have been very unsuccessful in my attempts to close my account.
I initially requested my account be closed in-person on April 25, 2024. It was not so I went again on May 20, 2024 to cancel. It was not, so I sent an email on June 8, 2024, seeking cancellation and did not receive a response. It was not. I followed up with a third in-person visit on June 27, 2024 to close this account. In each in-person visit I was assured the account would be closed, and would not occur additional fees. It is still open and incurring fees.
I requested that this account be cancelled multiple times, using different methods. It is still open. What else should you expect much from a location that knows steroids are being sold in their gym, and they don’t do anything to stop it?
Planet Fitness continues to make unauthorized attempts to charge two different bank accounts without my authorization. They cannot make time to close my account, but can tag team two different bank institutions to try to take my money. Shocking…Management doesn’t respond to emails, and does not process cancellation notices. I requested a call back from them twice, and never received a call back. I emailed corporate. Corporate refers you to the club, and the club ignores you. Who needs the gym when you can run on this hamster wheel of confusion?!?!
