Cute little store, they have LOTS of fish. Lots of angelfish especially lol but they have a good selection of other fish too. I have lots of tanks so I came in looking for a few different types of fish, and while they did have many of the ones I've been thinking about getting, I only left with one fish because I'm trying to control my spending haha. The fish I got is an african bushfish (leopard ctenopama), and he is super cute. I have honestly never seen one of these guys in any specialty fish store I've gone to, so I couldn't pass him up. I've had him for about a week now and he is doing very well. He didn't want to eat at first but I bribed him with some frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp. Probably one of my favorite fish I've ever bought before, I'm really excited to watch him grow up. The ladies in the store were also very nice and welcoming when I walked in.
There are a couple things I wanted to mention though; I noticed two tanks of fish had ich. Which happens sometimes when you get in shipments of fish all the time, I get it. But there was no note written on the tanks for quarantine and those fish were still up for sale, so I had to be very careful when selecting my fish to make sure that he wasn't from an affected tank.
I also noticed that they had three or four female bettas in one of the 20 gallon sale tanks, which isn't an issue in itself because I've had sororities in the past as well and they've all done well, but the tanks have very heavy aeration with little to no plants or hiding places and the poor girls were obviously stressed with horizontal stress lines on their sides.
However, none of those things are really a dealbreaker for me. I definitely will be coming back at some point. This is a cute little store and I completely understand how things go when you have literally thousands of fish to deal with. One really nice thing that I will mention is that unlike other fish shops, I don't recall even seeing one dead fish when I visited. I was at petsmart earlier in the day and there were dozens of dead fish in the tanks, and one of the workers even acknowledged it but didn't even bother to scoop any of them out? Yikes lol. So I really appreciate the attention to cleanliness that this store has. I will take a small local fish shop over a chain store pretty much any day. If you're ever in town and wanna see some cool fish that aren't in any of the "big" stores, definitely check out this one. :)
Update, my fish passed away from ich. :( He must've had it brewing and by the time I had the medicine, he was...
Read moreUpdate 6/21/2024 - I am soooo happy to see that you are taking the neccessary steps to keep your fish happy and healthy. I had a good chuckle reading the sign as it was warning individuals that ignorant behavior by children or adults will not be tolerated. Every True hobbiest knows that you don't tap, slap or knock on tanks. Loved the fact the there was a chain up infront of the saltwater fish. I had no problem purchasing the Sailfin Tang from the other side of the chain and I'm sure if I wanted to look at a smaller fish and asked to look at it closure, I'm pretty sure that would have been allowed. This store is always busy and they do an awesome job at trying to serve everyone so have patience, not all fish swim right in the net. Highly recommend 10xs over.
Excellant locally owned small business. Clean tanks & store, healthy fish and corals, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Excellant selection of drift wood and other tank decorations. Need frozen fish food, they got it. If you are new to this hobby, I strongly recommend this store because they will help you every step of the way to having a successful aquarium. If you are a know it all, go to Petco or one of the other...
Read moreExtreme tropical pets has been amazing to me in every way. To start it out, I went to pet smart and they completely misguided me with what fish to put together, when to put my fish in, and even what fish can live in how many gallons. I had an Oscar, 3 convict cichlids, 3 blood parrots, and 3 plecos. Adding them in instantly like petsmart told me to do got all of my fish sick and they weren’t getting along. They let me bring all of my fish in to give them a better home and spent at least an hour explaining the nitrogen cycle to me and giving me tips and directions to fish keeping. Needless to say, I have two nice empty tanks now and I am doing the nitrogen cycle on both of them and preparing to get into this hobby the right way with the right guidance. I will be getting all of my future fish and supplies from here. If anyone working there is reading this thank...
