I was visiting Denver for business and was looking for a quick morning hike that I could do before work. I looked at many possibilities knowing I wanted a mountain hike in short distance from town. I decided on the Royal Arch trail of Chatauqua Park in Boulder. This turned out to be a very good decision.I reached the trailhead around 5:30am and found myself to be alone (despite reading that it is often very crowded). I started on the easy Mesa trail and found my way to the Royal Arch trail. There were very good maps at the trailhead by the way, which helped me understand the total distance. It soon turned into a fairly strenous uphill hike but with a very clear trail, most of it stepped out with rocks.I made it to the Royal Arch (which terminates the trail) within 1.5 hours total and I had the entire trail and Arch to myself. The views were beautiful (see photos) and I had many chipmunk friends nearby. The stay at the Arch was very relaxing, the hike back took only 45 minutes (including a side-trail that I took to another great vantage point). I would very much recommend this as an early morning hike to see the sun rise and I even saw hot air balloons out over...
Read moreThis was an impromptu visit. My husband and I wanted to do some hiking. The trails were perfect for amateur hikers however, be mindful of the weather because it does change quickly in the area. When we got there it was storming so we hung out in town. After it cleared up, we made our trick out to the flat irons where we hiked around for a few hours. We noticed the skies starting to change just a little so we decided to head back and by the time we got in the car it was quite the storm coming in. Glad we trusted our instincts and got out when we did. The view was unbelievable and the rock formations were stunning. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to take an easier hike in...
Read moreAmazing views! If you are visiting you have to stop here, this was the highlight of Boulder for us! We are not big hikers so we were worried it would be a very hard hike with our 6 year old but it was a very nice hike, we did a long loop up to each flatiron. There are a ton of view points, once you get high up you can’t look any direction without being in awe. Looking down you can see for miles all of Boulder and Denver in the distance and right next to you are the mountains, gorgeous. Don’t skip this site! ⛰🧗♀️ There is also a very cute coffee shop and general store next to the flatirons, they made a great coffee and service ice cream for the kids after a hot hike it’s...
