I really wish I didn’t have to leave this review.
TLDR: I unknowingly adopted a sick cat and Areah lied about taking care of any health issues. My boy had URI, worms, and IBD. Spent $400 within a month of adopting him and Areah claims they didn’t know he was sick and won’t cover the bills. There are more honest rescues out there.
I got my sweet boy from Fawn’s in June, but I cannot recommend others go here. The adoption process was easy and Areah was so kind and seemed to really care about the cats. She assured me he was healthy but said that they would get him to a vet if any health concerns came up after taking him home. She also said if something did come up and I couldn’t wait for her vet to save my receipts because obviously his health is more important.
That seemed sweet in the moment but now I realize their cats just aren’t healthy. My boy had a bad upper respiratory infection and within 24hrs was vomiting and had bad diarrhea. I’ve owned cats my entire life so I know it’s common for changes to upset their stomachs and treated it as an adjustment period. He easily and fully integrated into our home. Plays with, snuggles, and grooms the other cat every day. Plays with the dog, is constantly purring. But the vomiting and diarrhea didn’t stop - it got worse.
So I reached out to Areah and she couldn’t get us in to see a vet. The symptoms felt consistent with worms and I told Areah that so she provided dewormer for both cats. The vomiting and diarrhea persisted. I reached out again and asked for her vets information to speak to them directly. She didn’t give me the vets information, but said she would try to get an appointment. Then she offered some clay to stop the diarrhea. I didn’t take the clay because it reached a point where he had diarrhea falling out of him while he was walking so I decided it was more important to get him seen and took him to my vet.
As soon as they saw him, my vet asked what rescue I got him from. When I said Fawn’s he said “let me guess they didn’t tell you he was sick when you adopted him.” Apparently Fawn’s has a reputation at my vet. Anyway. $400 later, my sweet boy had URI, worms, and IBD. The vet said the clay Areah offered is often used by rescues to mask symptoms so the cats seem healthy.
Thankfully my boy is thriving now, but when I asked Areah if she was going to cover the cost of any of his bills (all accumulated within that first month of owning him), she brushed it off as if they didn’t know he was sick and said the only way to get things covered was through their vet. The vet they couldn’t get him in to see. The vet they refused to provide the name of for me to reach out on my own.
