I had bad customer service there after letting them know that their marked packages of sweet peppers, "cachucha" were not so sweet! After I finished making the homemade "sofrito ." I go to clean up, n wash my hands, when my hand made contact with water, it began a stingy sensation that got worse. I immediately recognized what had happened, bcuz back in November, the same happened, actually worse, bcuz it was both hands, n it was to the point, where I considered going to the hospital! I didn't go, because I can't afford an emergency visit! So, I take back the receipt n the other packages I had, plus some of the empty packages of some of the other ingredients used, so I can be reimbursed, bcuz now, I have to dump the whole thing!
Well, called a supposedly more manager than the first manager I had interactions with, which by the way, is always very pleasant, as the entire staff there. I asked her, to let me speak to a higher up, which she called another lady, a tad bit older, n I'm going to say, she may have called her Sara? The lady got somewhat testy because I asked her, n the other gentlemen 's name? Once she says they cannot replace my items, but only returned 2 more packages I took back, obviously not going to open them, n run with the same luck! It had happened to me back in November, that's why I knew what had happened again! Last time, I figured it was me in a rush, n picked up the wrong one. This time, I made sure it said sweet peppers in English, and "cachucha" in Spanish. Plus I took back the bag where all the other ingredients upon cleaning up were in a bag. So they couldn't doubt my issue? That was a waste of time. The man they called after the lady Sara, not sure that's her name? He also got testy, n told me why should he replace my stuff? I tried to tell them, I have to dump it again, because the hot peppers ruined it again! They stuck to their guns, n the only thing they refunded was what I took back, not even the pack of peppers used that stung my hand! Again, biggest issue here, was the stingy sensation in my hand, the uncomfortableness! Let alone I had to fall asleep, with my hand in a receptacle with ice water, n sugar, bcuz I rarely have milk in the refrigerator. So I replaced it with water, n sugar. Worked perfectly, took a tad bit longer than milk to alleviate, but it let me sleep, n I didn't spill it during my sleep.
Customer not always right. This time I was right, n lack of any kind of business education, to understand how to deal with matters like these on their part: left a bad customer care experience where I'm concerned. The staff there are very pleasant otherwise. Being I'm disabled, I usually am on my scooter, n they help me shop there every time I went there.
I'm not sure if I shall return, or just change to another Latino/ Hispanic grocery store? Again their staff is awesome, but the 2 individuals in charge of this matter, totally did not have a clue on their customer service skills. I know by me not returning there, isn't going to make a dent in their pocket, but I can let you know who read this, about their customer service skills.
You may wonder how I know, and can evaluate their skills? I was a customer service representative for 27 years, and this would not be how to handle this particular situation. Only thing I wanted was a replacement to ingredients I was going to have to throw away, n those that were thrown away previously, for same reason? Maybe, $20.00 worth. As a disabled recipient, thats a lot of money.
I also tried calling their supposedly Corporate Headquarters, the young lady that answers the phone, says there's no department there for my issue. She then gives me another number that no one...
Read moreAs others have said, this is not going to be the same experience as shopping at Publix. Check the dates on your food and check your veggies before you select them. If you don't know how, ask for help or ask a fellow shopper. Ask to see and smell your fresh fish for meat or chicken before the butcher packages it and use or cook it the same day. In the cafeteria, ask if it is freas and ask to see what you are buying. If you don't like what you see ask for different, ask for help, or say no and get something else. I just love this chain, especially this store. Love the cafeteria here too. I saw another review complaining about the smell. It seems like they are too young to remember what grocery stores with vibrant meat and fish counters smelled like before the hermetically sealed groceries of today. But I do think a better cleaning or venting systems could be used, just know the health department checks them like ever other store. Anyway that is what makes things amazing here. I felt a changing to more of a Haitian feel than Latin at this store over time. I see other reviews suggesting El Bodegon for a more Latin feel in the area. It is still packed with great finds from South of the US. Great veggies and meats and fish. Great rice and beans selections. Great deals and specials. Great value wines at better deals than most other stores on some items. Just a great amount of finds you won't find at the other big chains. I really like their refrigerator section of flans. This place is always busy so there is a huge population of people that like shopping here. It feels social and real and fun and like a great place for the community. You can find most of what you would find at Publix and Walmart but more and different items. If you want fresh butchered meat chicken and fish from a counter it's a great experience. Learn how to shop in this environment. Other customers are friendly and will share advice. Step back and watch what is happening and learn how to participate. If it is not for you, at least you tried and have a new...
Read moreIt has food. It also has the most horrible smell in a grocery store I've even smelled. All over. It's not like one refrigerator case failed - it's the WHOLE store. And it's not just meat/fish. You can't stack 24 inches of vegetables on a flat display and not expect the bottom 2 inches are going to rot (unless you turnover vegetables like a farmer). The only exception to the smell of foul food was one aisle in the center, where it smelled like someone took a bad counterfeit bottle of Drakkar Noir, put it in a pump sprayer and hit every square inch of that aisle - shelves, food, and floor. It was really impressive, actually.
On the other hand - they take every square inch of chicken, cows, pigs, goats and maybe something else I couldn't indentify - and they sell it. Nothing goes to waste. If you want a cow shin, this is your store.
And - they had a 1.5L bottle of wine for $5.99. So - that's a win. And like all the best stores, a security guard right in the front.
I highly recommend a quick walk through to anyone solely for amusement purposes. Just don't buy anything and maybe wear some clothes that you can wash...
