Great for remembering, but not so great at making new memories. This is a classic ride that is great for families with young kids and is also in desperate need for maintenance/upgrades/repairs.
I remember this and Fire in the Hole being my two favorite rides when I was a kid, and it definitely still has charm. The idea is fun, and it's a nice stepping stone for little ones to get comfortable with indoor rides and get the courage to try some more "grown-up" rides. I can't imagine the excitement of riding this when it first came out and having a weapon you're using "hit" a target and making shovels spin, birds chirp, and TNT boxes making explosion sounds.
That being said, the system used for the guns and targets is hanging on by a thread... I'm not sure if you can find a boat that has a gun that works correctly from the beginning of the ride to the end. They either won't turn on, or they don't record the score, or they don't register hits. It's like remote controls for TVs; state-of-the-art and magical when first released, but decades later you just come to expect it to work every time and it's a big letdown when it doesn't.
The mannequins and scenes inside the ride itself also need major refurbishment.
I still get excited when I get in line for this ride because of nostalgia, and the kids love going once or twice, but it's not the crowd-pleaser it was many years ago. You can pretty much ride as many times as you want without having to get out of the boat because there is never a line of people...
Read moreThe Flooded Mine is a low key gaming experience shooting gallery ride. Fun for all ages, but the ride is in darker themed areas (good to be aware of for smaller children with fear of the dark unlocked). There are no major surprises that jump out and scare anyone, but, there is a water blast toward the end (like TNT going off) that may startle a little one. You will not get wet in this ride. The main point of the rode is to rack up as many points in the shooting gallery with persists through the entire ride. Every rider has their own fake pistol to earn...
Read moreThe Flooded Mine is based on the idea of a prison that floods. It certainly isn't a concept for those terrified of drowning to death in a steel cage. However, it is a fun and relaxing ride that gets you out of the hot summer sun. And, although the arcade style shooting guns do malfunction a bit, they still hit the targets enough to make it fun especially for...
