Update to the reply I received: You did not supply any documentation for free. My diamond was GSI certified and the wedding band custom made. The new appraiser said these two details alone instantly add value, but you didn't bother to ask. If I knew that was needed, I would have happily applied it. With that, I again paid for appraisals that were not done thoroughly or in my (customer's) best interest. A simple call could have fixed this. The price I paid for appraisals that are of no use is what I am upset about. And the way you spoke to me and snickered when I told you they were custom pieces by a designer in New York.

Update to original post: Took my rings to a well known jeweler in Edwardsville and she felt so bad about what happened she re-appraised them all for free. They valued the same pieces for $7,690 more than Becker’s!!

Beware! DO NOT GET YOUR JEWELRY appraised here! I recently had my wedding rings and a few other items appraised here. They appraised it for less than what I paid for it. My wedding band (purchased in 2005), appraised for the same amount of the purchase price 13 + years ago. My last appraisal (done at a jeweler in Edwardsville) in 2014, appraised it for $3,000 more than what Becker’s did…..and that was 5 years ago! They also appraised my wedding band for half of what the appraisal value was in 2014 and less than what we paid for it. When I called to express my concern over what they valued my jewelry at, I am still shocked at how rudely I was treated by AG Becker. When I explained I was upset he explained that the price can fluctuate, which I understand, but told him I did not understand how my jewelry could appraise the same value (or less on one piece) that we paid for it over 13 years ago, especially when I had it appraised in 2014 for thousands more than what he appraised it for today. Throughout the conversation, he referred to me as “honey” in a very derogatory way several times and also told me twice that “you aren’t making a bit of sense” when I argued that it was my impression that the value of gold and diamond generally goes up in value over time and that I preferred to pay a slightly higher insurance premium than have a replacement cost that is undervalued. Oh….he also asked me where I purchased my ring from (which was a jeweler in Kansas City) and that they only carry and sell one of each piece, so you never have to worry about someone else wearing your ring. I also told him a designer in New York made me ring in the 90’s to which he replied that he didn’t believe that. To top it all off, he hung up on me!!! My brother recommended Becker's Jewelers to my sister and I to check out their pendants and prices. He uses them for his wife's jewelry. My sister and I took a drive to Becker's Jewelers in Breese, IL and took our father's fingerprints with us to see if Becker Jewelers could help us out. We we're very happy with Lisa's help designing a necklace for our mother to have our father's fingerprint engraved on the pendant and we also placed his birthstone on there as well.
