We did a half day tour on June 4th. We were concerned that the GTTS road was mostly closed. But they said the tour would go on.
We drove the 6 or so miles and the views were stunning. The rain had mostly broken and we had mixed skies. When the sun shone on the mountain tops,……Wow. Yes this could have been done on our own BUT, we wouldn’t have had Jack Gladstone with us! What an incredible knowledgeable and talented man! He performed several of his original songs , and the combination of his music AND the majesty of the views were quite unique and very special. We drove up to see buffalo near the Canadian border, and he sang Buffalo Cafe’ very cool. In addition to the music, his knowledge of the area was amazing. It is a if he had a degree in history and geography. We particularly enjoyed his sharing of the Blackfeet history and culture even including personal and family stories. This is why we booked with Sun Tours. As it is Blackfeet owned and run. . We were not at all disappointed in that department. In addition to his extensive knowledge and talent, I would have to say that parts of the day were a spiritual experience for us. And as icing on the cake, his professional background is communication and speech! And it really showed. What a bundle of talent and ability. Thanks, Jack...
Read moreMy wife and I did a full day tour our first day in the park this summer and I cannot imagine what our trip would have been like without the introduction and framing we got that day. The tour provides a unique perspective on the history of the park, its inhabitants past and present, and the land itself. The tour went way beyond the typical info you might get at most standard tours - especially considering the Blackfeet still consider the eastern side of the park to have been unjustly taken, and they explain why/how that happened. Our tour guide Arlan was so knowledgeable, kind, and engaging. His grandfather was the tribal chief of the Blackfeet nation and is even featured in the St. Mary visitor center. To have a guide whose family history is so central to that area and to the park felt truly special. At one point we met up with another Sun Tours bus and Arlan and the other tour guide Lester sung the Blackfeet tribal anthem. It was unlike any kind of park tour or experience I've ever had, and was the highlight of our trip to Glacier. I can't recommend...
Read moreEast Glacier Park Tour - Remarkable, Emotional, Essential
We arrived in East Glacier the night before and stayed at Glacier Park Lodge. We began this epic adventure the next morning at 8:00 a.m. Our tour guide Lester was a member of the Blackfeet Tribe. Although the Going to the Sun Road was closed at Jackson Glacier the tour took us to amazing locations with great photo opportunities. The highlight of this tour, however, was the amazing insight and stories provided by our tour guide. The stories ran the emotional spectrum from humor to ones that would move you to tears. One cannot fully appreciate the connection between the Blackfeet Tribe and Glacier without hearing first-hand the rich history of the people who have called this area home for thousands of years. I would highly recommend that everyone make this a part of their visit to Glacier National Park and preferably book a tour at the start of your stay, it will give you a deeper appreciation for the beauty of this park for the remainder of your stay. You won't be...
