I’ve been coming to Serrano’s every year since 2014 and have been a big fan. Last year we noticed a change, but the food was still good and our server, Ben, was excellent.
We decided to go back this evening and arrived before they even opened as we know things can get crazy busy. We were seated immediately and were told that there was a limited menu. We were okay with that, because what we wanted was on the menu. However, if you’re going to limit your menu, at least hang one outside versus displaying the full menu.
I ordered some guacamole, two tacos, a side of rice and iced tea; my friend ordered queso a chimichanga plate, a margarita and a beer. We both agreed the queso, tacos and chimichanga were decent, as was the service. But it was far from being what we remember.
It was a pretty warm day, we had been hiking and I had already drank my weight in water, so I was looking forward to the iced tea. After two glasses I was informed there would be a charge for any refills after that. Wait - WHAT?? We travel ALL over the US and Canada and have NEVER been charged for a refill on iced tea.
When our meal came out, they brought over a side of rice in a dish that’s not even a full serving. I took a bite, it was cold and had to be the worst rice I’ve ever eaten. Zero flavor and so bad that not even salt or pepper would help it out. My friend’s chimichanga plate came without the rice, yet she was still charged full price. If it tasted anything like mine, I told her she was lucky they left it off.
Then came the bill. $8.95 for guacamole that came in a child sized ramekin? Add to that, it was mediocre at best $14.95 for queso? Granted it was good, but c’mon, an appetizer should not be the price of a main course, unless there is a lot to it. $18.95 for a chimichanga that didn’t include rice or even beans?
My bill was $24.95; that’s only because I asked them to take off the rice. My friend’s bill was $48.95 - for ONE person, that is total absurdity. We understand inflation, but if you’re going to charge ridiculous prices, at least serve the food to make it worth the price.
Needless to say, we will not be going back. That’s a shame because this was one stop we always...
Read moreWent for dinner bc I grew up here and it has been amazing in the past. Came back after 10 years to indulge. I ordered the Wagyu carne asada as a taco which was 35.00 totally fine. My sisters boyfriend ordered the fried chili relleno and my sister ordered the street corn and a chicken taco.
My carne asada showed up as a dry piece of steak not sliced up thin at all like carne asada is supposed to be. They had a seasoning on it and I think that’s why they tried to called it carne asada but it was incredibly bland. Also, Wagyu is supposed to have fat integrated within the meat, there was no fat at all, the server said they trimmed it off but that didn’t make any sense. The fat adds a ton of flavor but this had none.
My sisters street corn was only corn salsa and it was cold. I asked the server about it and she said that’s their version of it but they also call it a corn salsa. It was in a slightly bigger ramekin for 6.00! How can they have one dish but say its works as 2 different dishes???!! It is 100% not street corn, there’s no cotija cheese, no white cream sauce and had no flavor. Very misleading but our server didn’t seem to care. My sister only ate a few bites of it, I only ate a few bites of my steak. And her boyfriend ate half of the chili relleno and said it tasted like a churro and that it was sweet and said you couldn’t taste the chili at all. We ended spending 100.00 but we’re still really hungry after. This place is definitely frequented by tourists so maybe that’s why they don’t care about the quality bc they know they don’t need repeat customers. It was extremely disheartening and disappointing bc this place was amazing. I work as a travel agent for the area and had this place listed as a great option but unfortunately I’m going to have to take it...
Read moreAfter crushing a grueling day hike that left us dusty and starving, we stumbled into this hidden gem of a Mexican spot, and holy guacamole, it was the ultimate recharge! This place is tiny but mighty—cozy vibes without the wait, and the service? Super efficient, like they read our minds. Staff was friendly as hell, getting our orders out lightning-fast. We kicked things off with the appetizer trio, and let me tell you, DO NOT SKIP THIS. It’s a flavor explosion: crispy taquitos, fresh guac, and queso that hits just right—perfect for sharing (or not, no judgment). Then came the main event: the fajita chicken plate. Epic doesn’t even cover it. Sizzling hot, juicy chicken loaded with peppers, onions, and that smoky char, all wrapped up with warm tortillas, rice, and beans that were seasoned to perfection. Every bite was a fiesta in my mouth, no leftovers in sight. Food was straight-up excellent across the board, portions generous without being overwhelming. If you’re coming off an adventure like we were, this is the spot to refuel. 5 stars, would hike back just to eat here...
