Harlows House — Local services in Buffalo

This used to be one of my favorite shops in Buffalo and I’ve purchased many things from here over the years however, today was a completely different experience and I won’t be back. I was out for what was supposed to be a chill day with two of my girlfriends and after leaving Harlows House and upon entering the next store we realized the shop attendant (maybe the owner??) had followed us. She confronted me, pointing at my hands and said, “Did you want that?!?” I opened my hands showcasing a mint wrapper and utterly confused said, “Want what?” She then said “Oh you must have dropped it and someone else picked it up!” I then put two and two together realizing that she thought I had stolen something from her shop. I have never experienced something like this and was absolutely appalled and embarrassed and it ruined what was supposed to have been a fun day. I would strongly suggest that she is 100% certain of the situation before following, confronting, accusing, and making a scene towards an innocent customer. Better yet, I wish she would have called the cops so I could have emptied my pockets and purse to showcase my credit cards, cash, keys, and cell phone…all mine. I shop light so wouldn’t have taken much time. It’s a great example of someone thinking the worst of another human and jumping to conclusions without cause. My take away is that I’ve got solid values (stealing isn’t in my repertoire of considerations in life, hence the reason I was so confused when she confronted me!) and it’s an opportunity to share this story with others- adults and kids alike as unfortunately, it’s another example that apparently we need to be aware of and prepared for if someone comes at you unjustly while shopping in a home...
