I would just like to take the time to specifically commend the young guys behind the deli meat/sandwich counter for their friendliness and professionalism -- especially as a newcomer to the Burlington area. I was looking for some mortadella -- which, believe it or not, I'm having an extremely difficult time finding in the area -- and these guys were happy to make suggestions and provide alternatives. One of them hopped on the slicer and cut me some fresh capocollo instead. Don't be perturbed by the fact that their meat display case appears empty, as they keep everything in the walk-in fridge. Generally, this is a very friendly place with excellent customer service, and a strong sense of wanted to provide for their local community. There's some variety and selection -- not very much, but hey it's not a supermarket after all. I do wish that their fresh meat section was a bit more thoroughly stocked, in terms of abundance and variety, but I'm admittedly only just getting to know the place. I did find it a little bit pricey as other reviewers have pointed out, but that is the price of convenience rather than having to go long distances to...
Read moreThis is such a valuable market to have in the ONE. I am impressed with the variety of quality products they offer in a small, clean, and welcoming space. I buy most of my groceries there and only occasionally supplement from other stores. I am so grateful that they've been here over the last year and I know a lot of folks in the ONE appreciate them.
Even if some items are priced higher than you can find elsewhere, I like supporting my neighbor and paying a bit extra to ensure they are successful and stay in the neighborhood. Smaller stores like this have higher expenses than larger stores so it makes sense. Jake's is right-sized for this neighborhood. It all ends up balancing out in the end since I'd have spent money on gas or lost time to bike to a store further away. Bonus is that I don't have to deal with traffic or larger crowds.
Shopping at Jake's is pleasurable, not stressful. Staff are friendly and helpful. They take the time to connect with each customer. I'd give 10...
Read moreI would frequent Jakes ONE Market several times a week as I work nearby. I usually order coffee/iced mocha. HOWEVER, the last time I ordered an Iced Mocha, I was perusing the produce while I waited, and happened to turn back to see if my order was ready and I saw the barista pouring CHOCOLATE MILK in my coffee. An iced mocha is traditionally made with powdered cocoa. Have I been paying over five dollars for basically chocolate milk poured over coffee all this time?????? No more. If I wanted to pay five dollars for chocolate milk I'd move to California. I can't understand WHY they would do this. Deceitful or did they just run out of powdered cocoa? A one time thing or a...
