I was in Pleasant Valley Hospital (PVH) this last July for nearly 3 weeks, over 1 week in the ICU. I was very ill for over 4 months last summer and PVH was integral to saving my life from hospital borne infections. I received excellent care at all stages of the hospital and especially the ICU. I was pleasantly surprised as I had always avoided going to PVH as their reputation wasn’t very good.
The care in the ICU was excellent. In particular, I credit nurse Robin with saving my life. I was emotionally exhausted from the testing, treatment and pain but she literally held my hand through it all and gave me the strength to fight for my life. I’m so thankful to her as she deserves more accolades than I can give. In over two plus decades of severe medical issues, I have never been treated so well.
Everyone in the hospital section was great. They gave me good care except for the Dr. Bond who I’m told transferred me to a skilled nursing facility too soon (per other doctor and nurse’s opinions.) That’s a different review and I don’t blame PVH for it.
Even the food was pretty good and the variety was great. Another local hospital gives the same food on a weekly rotation but PVH has four weeks of rotating meals. I was hospitalized for a total of over two months. When you’re in the hospital that long, it’s nice to have variety.
I’m thankful PVH for taking such good care of me at that time.
Unfortunately, I recently had to go to the ER and had an opposite experience. I’m not able to write a separate review for that with different opinion and one star. I hate running to the ER for back pain issues but my pain was so intense over the weekend, I had no choice. I was also there for hydration due to infusion complications. I was sent thereby my home health company and the doctor was so uncaring and rude. I was astonished by her lack of compassion and I truly have never been treated so bad in an ER. They have always done my hydration when I needed it and this time the doctor said to go home and let home health do it which was a different problem and why I went to the ER! My home health nurse even called and pleaded with them to help you me but they said I could go back and wait to see the doctor again but I already had had enough of her. She made it known what her decision was and it was firm. I’d share her name but they will not give me any information. I have to go to medical records. I’ll add it when/if I am able. It doesn’t matter what her ethnicity is except to describe her for reference purposes only. These are my guesses: She appears to be in her 40s, maybe 5’8”, thin, of Middle Eastern or Indian dissent and nice appearance. The only discrimination that appeared to be present was her lack of compassion for a disabled woman in her 60s. But isn’t that the reason she became a doctor! Poor or non-existent...
Read moreI am writing this review with a heavy heart and a profound sense of disappointment regarding the care and treatment my daughter received at your hospital. The incident that unfolded during our visit to the emergency room was nothing short of a nightmare, leaving us deeply anguished and furious at the evident lack of empathy displayed by the attending physician.
From the very moment we arrived, it was clear that something was amiss. The physician on duty appeared disinterested and callous, failing to extend even a shred of compassion towards my daughter, who was clearly in distress. Her symptoms pointed to a possible throat infection, but to our utter disbelief, the doctor neglected to conduct any tests or even a basic examination.
The consequences of this negligent oversight were devastating. It was only after we sought a second opinion from a competent physician that we discovered our daughter had been suffering from strep throat, a diagnosis that should have been made during her initial visit. The delay in identification and treatment had allowed the infection to worsen, subjecting my daughter to unnecessary pain and suffering.
As a parent, witnessing such disregard for a patient's well-being is beyond infuriating. We place our trust in medical professionals to provide competent and compassionate care, especially in an emergency situation. However, the unprofessional behavior we encountered shattered that trust and left us feeling utterly betrayed.
Furthermore, the physician's lack of empathy was painfully apparent throughout the entire ordeal. Instead of offering reassurance or providing clear explanations, we were met with dismissive attitudes and an overall lack of concern. It is utterly unacceptable that a healthcare provider could treat a young child, or any patient for that matter, in such a callous manner.
I implore your hospital to take immediate action in rectifying this grave error. Ensure that all your staff members are held accountable for their actions and undergo comprehensive training in patient care, empathy, and professionalism. No parent should have to endure the heartbreak and anger we experienced due to the negligence and indifference of medical professionals.
In conclusion, the level of care and treatment my daughter received at your hospital was abhorrent. The lack of empathy displayed by the emergency room physician and their failure to diagnose my daughter's strep throat has caused immense distress and anguish. I sincerely hope that this review serves as a wake-up call for your institution to reevaluate its standards and prioritize patient well-being...
Read moreGood evening St John's Hospital
Tonight I was having what seemed like to me as a heart attack. I then called 911 and AMR paramedics arrived at my house. I was so thankful for Rebecca, Robert and Steven from AMR for their quality of assessment and recommendations to go to the hospital. Because of my family history of that type of heart attack, I was seen by Charge Nurse Christina iii and she was very professional about her assessment. A outstanding Charge Nurse with the education and knowledge too back it up. I was then seen by RN Brian, and he did the labs for the Hospital. He kept me informed throughout my visit to the ER and made sure that I was not worried about the situation going on. It's in my opinion that Brian is a young man, and it wouldn't surprise me if he makes Charge Nurse someday. Now their were too people I did not get their names. One was the lovely janitorial lady working tonight on 11-30-22 cleaning up room 11 in the ER around 2030 hours (nurse time lol). I asked her if she could get the nurse so I could use the double R, but totally went out of her way to get assistance for me, super cool of her! Then I think he was a MD green scubs and balled head. I mean this unknown MD went above and beyond to help the situation, you Rock Dude! I did catch my main MD name. A special thanks to MD Christen who easied my worries and resolved the problem correctly. I'm Glad I live in a town where we have a team of Medical Professionals who run a ER under extreme circumstances, well done St. John's Hospital Camarillo. And last but not least Lydia Registration Admitting. Omg try to understand for a second that until the ER staff got the lab results back, I wasn't sure if I was having a mild heart attack. About 3 minutes after RN Brian informed me that I was clear and nothing serious, I had the pleasure of do the paperwork to get discharged. Omg was so thankful for nothing serious, so when I was talking with her I was still very shooken up. She was so nice and so was everyone else's. So in closing yes your hospital does great work and I bet all you associates MD RN etc have too work extreme hours. I commend your team for well just being Awesome people who care about their patients.
Thanks...
