We hired Don the owner of Good News BBQ for a wedding on October 4, 2025. I hate writing negative reviews, but after another comment by someone that attended over the weekend, decided it was a must for future clients. My day of coordinator had tried to get in touch with Don the entire week leading up to the wedding, with no luck, until the night before the wedding. We actually had to come up with a backup plan in case we didn't hear from him by Friday evening. He said his phone was broke. He did make it to our event, although shorthanded by two people he said called out sick. We had to lend him one of the day of coordinators helpers to assist to serve the food. Throughout the entire event, he made comments to our guests/family as to why they were getting another plate already, why they wanted more food on their plate, and someone in front of me (I was the mother of the groom who paid for the entire venue) who wanted another slice of the meat was told "I still need to serve other people". The bride/groom asked for another plate and was questioned by our coordinator by Don why they needed more. Completely tacky. My sister came up to get my mom a plate who just had knee surgery and couldn't walk and was also questioned why she had two plates! Out of all the vendors including the venue itself (The Black Pearl on the Columbia, which I recommend highly) he was the most expensive. No one should have been asked why they were getting more food, especially after the first round thru! He offended one of the guests so badly by a very inappropriate comment she was in tears, her boyfriend asked that he come out and apologize, he never did and even mentioned it to the bride/groom which should have never been bothered with such nonsense on their wedding day. And...at the end of the night didn't remove his garbage as listed in the contract and stated it was an oversight (we had to do it ourselves) but another reviewer mentioned the same complaint. He will come back with an excuse for everything I stated above, which he did when I mentioned it to him as well, and I won't go back and forth with him anymore. Any vendor at your wedding event should be kind, professional and someone everyone talks about days after the event, just not the way they talked about Don and Good News BBQ. Hire at...
Read moreWe had Good News BBQ cater our daughter’s wedding recently. We footed the bill while my daughter did all the contacting with the owner. We had the tasting dinner and although not bbq fans the food was good, but we made suggestions regarding spicing. For the wedding we ordered a green side salad for our vegetarian guests, and for those who don’t like dressings, but got Caesar salad instead, all premixed. We also wanted dinner to be buffet serving. But just prior to the wedding my daughter contacts the owner and discovers he has booked himself for another event the same day, and said he would be sending his parents with the food truck….not what we ordered, we ordered buffet style. My daughter insisted on buffet, and he said that would require more people… not our fault. We got buffet, but his parents showed up with young kids as servers, and although nice kids, it is not what we were expecting, and probably not what we paid for. The day of the event, the owner’s father is serving…not very humorous and not having the expected banter with the guests in line as the owner said would happen. My wife asked for some of both the beef and the chicken and the dad said there may not be enough for people still in line. We paid for 150 people, but did not have that many guests show up, so there should have been a substantial amount of both the beef and the chicken. And although we had very little left overs, we were suppose to have togo boxes, but they didn’t supply any. Thankfully our good family friend who used to be a caterer had brought boxes out of habit. Bussing didn’t seem to be part of the service, and friends and family had to bus the tables. And they were suppose to take the trash, but we think that got put in the venue garbage. Overall the experience was disappointing. We paid a LOT per person, and a mandatory 20% gratuity (which was not earned), to book the event. If I had another big event like this, thankfully I probably won’t, I would not use this vendor and would look elsewhere based on the cost, lack of service for 20% gratuity, and just lack of...
Read moreThese guys are seriously so great! My family hired them to cater a rehearsal dinner of about 20 people. They came on time and prepared a great meal for us — the meat was moist and juicy with just the right amount of flavor, green beans were full of delicious bacon, and the corn bread was fluffy and delicious! And to top it off they made a huge display of a crawfish boil with sausage, potatoes, corn in a delicious and fragrant garlic marinade. Our visitors from Texas and Louisiana commended them for the flavor and authenticity. Everything was fantastic and it really made for a great evening with family and friends. They were even understanding and stayed late for us when a few important people from our party hadn’t arrived yet. From the beginning interaction of booking them for the event, all the way to the end, these guys were such a pleasure to work with! You must book them for...
