Due to the cold weather which was not conducive to the beach we tried this fabulous safari. Unlike others offered it was a full day visiting 4 different habitats of the beautiful Everglades. Who knew it was so much more than birds and grasses. We started off seeing the waterways in an airboat surrounded by the iconic grasses, we hiked through a cypress forest tagging fauna, we travelled a nature path where we saw 12 species of birds and many alligators topped off by a boat out into the Gulf of Mexico where 4 dolphins literally circled our small skiff for 30 minutes. The closest encounter I’ve ever experienced with these gentle creatures while enjoying another habitat of the Everglades I never knew existed... the Ten-thousand Island Mangrove Forest. On the gulf we saw a Great blue heron nest with babies peeking out and entire islands made so many years ago of oyster shells. We even saw a great horned owl sitting in a high nest! The outdoor lunch on the water was fresh and delicious and a fun way to get to know our safari mates. And throughout it all we had the amazing Erin for our guide who knew more about the ecology and history of the Everglades than anyone I think I will meet in my lifetime. Her enthusiasm for what we were seeing was infectious and just in case we thought she needed to be more impressive she spoke to a German couple we met on a trail... in German and while waiting for everyone to finish lunch she played her ukelele. I kid you not. We had the best time and the next day while driving to another stop I said....look! It’s a cattle egret! Who knew I was so smart. Thank you Erin! What a great trip. Highly recommended...
Read morePete was awesome. His passion for the wildlife in the area really shined through. The tour was informative and interesting, and I think it helped our 15 year old overcome his deathly fear of alligators, especially since he got to hold one! Saw some interesting and rare sites thanks to a nice break in the stormy weather, although Pete provided ponchos in case it started to rain. The headsets were great and the only way we would have been able to hear him and the boat operator once on the airboat. The trail walk was just as interesting and (almost as) fun as the airboat ride. Definitely recommend this tour...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time. It was fun and interesting for all ages. My 5 year old daughter had as good of a time as her 68 year old grandpa! Ben was an amazing guide! He was very knowledgable about everything! We saw several ecosystems, many different birds, alligators, dolphins, and so much more! The airboat ride was fun, informative, and had a wonderful guide. Captain Ed got us so close to the dolphins we could almost touch them on the boat cruise! We also had a delicious lunch in Everglade City! I can't say enough wonderful things about the Everglades Day Safari and our wonderful...
