Ta Contento Mex Fresh Food — Local services in Carrboro

I really want to give this place a much better rating than a 3, but it's the prices that are are pulling the rating down. I got nachos today for $15 after after tax. I've attached a picture of what I bought with the receipt, and quite frankly it's worth $7 at best. If you compare the sit down Mexican restaurants nearby you'll find that you could have a lunch with a tip for just over $10.

I've read the other reviews and I cannot agree with the taste versus the price differentiation. But I don't really know what fresh means in those comments. All food I buy at restaurants I expect to be fresh, but a lot of it comes from major restaurant chain suppliers.

I really want to see this place succeed, but I will not be going back because of the prices. There are too many other options in the area with food that I consider just as good if not better for the price.

I do recommend that folks go and give it a try for themselves. My lunch was good, but it was not great.

I am always happy to hear that Nora and Hans are bringing their food truck to our area! I know that we are going to get good quality and fresh food served with the biggest hearts. Ta Contento comes to our area where some have been hit hard by rising food costs and feel alienated by the isolation one has to endure to be safe during Covid. Patrons pay what they can and mingle at a safe distance with others in the community. They give us the opportunity to get delicious food (their popular chicken soup really is THAT good and I always do a happy dance when they have their authentic smooth, full bodied flan) and check in with each other. They even agreed to bring their food truck to my nephew’s group home on short notice during the very busy holiday season putting big smiles on everyone’s faces in addition to delicious food in our bellies! This is a great, go-to place. It’s on my way home from work so I’ve stopped for take away tacos a dozen times. I’ve also stopped to pick up a few desserts on nights when we’ve had dinner planned but wanted a little something extra. The tacos are excellent, and I’ve tried most of the options- I love the birria. The flan and tres leches are a great treat. Just this morning I tried the Happy burrito and it is awesome!! It has black beans, potatoes, cheese, egg, and huge chunks of avocado. I had mine with the salsa roja which has a nice kick. This will be my go-to breakfast on days when I’m running behind. I can’t imagine needing to add meat to it because it’s so flavorful and filling, but Ta Contento offers a few options there. This restaurant is a little gem and I hope everyone...
