I went to the Lake Co. Fair because my son works the 4H events and I have a 6mo old baby who I was hoping to take on some rides. Ones he could just sit in my lap and enjoy. They didnt have many, maybe 4 or 5. Which is fine. Just putting that out for info if anyone else is interested in what they have that babies could enjoy. The worst part of the fair wa is the 4H portion. Nothing wrong with the riders or most of the workers. The problem lies in the way the new management took care of things. I was told that they made an announcement for riders saying "if you dont like our track, go somewhere else." Basically telling riders of they have a problem with the drain spout or whatever it is in the middle of the track that they have the orange cone over, that they don't have to use their track and can take their business elsewhere. Which I think is rude. Thank you for mentioning, if that's what you wanna call it, the hazard that lies in the middle of the track. Offside from that, I personally experienced an issue with the woman who is now running the events there. She was short with very light blonde hair. Very RUDE. I was standing at the 4H building (next to the track) with my 16 yr old son and a random woman was coming from the window there. She asked if either one of us knew who the new person was that was managing the 4H events this year. Obviously just curious since the woman doing it this year was new. I looked at my son since he was working there thinking maybe he knows. His response was a non-verbal kind of shrug and head shake. Just then a woman came walking up and he quickly (from behind me) points to her and puts his hand away fast. I turned to her and realized she worked there but since he didnt actually say anything I didnt know who she was. So I just said "excuse me.." and she sharply cuts me off while wizzing by and snaps, "nope." Well I hadn't even asked the question so what was she "noping" to? Myself, being the type of person I am, proceeded to ask anyway, "we were just wondering if you knew who was running things this year." To which she responded by stopping dead in her quick tracks, snapping her head back towards us and replies in a very rude manner, "me. why? Is there a problem?" The other lady and I looked at eachother, shocked as she replied, "no, i was just wondering who took over this year." And before she could even finish that statement the woman was already off in her tracks. I dont exactly know what her problem was, but she did not need to speak to this woman the way she did. Or me for that matter. Other than that, I was told by my mother that this woman called her phone several times looking for my son, demanding he return to the track to work when he was already in the track working the whole time. And she yelled at him for taking too long of a break. Which I guess she doesnt know all of the workers already (every year) have a schedule amongst themselves of how to rotate in and out so they can also enjoy the fair while there. Considering they work 12+ hours a day I think its fair they agree to cover one another at certain times between the heat and sun and everything else. Im not sure n I will let him work again of she is...
Read moreLAKE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS located in Crown Point, IN (Bulldog Park) is a fun, clean & family friendly way to spend your 2025 summer. I visited the fairgrounds on Tuesday “Rodeo Night”. Heehaw.. it was within the grandstand area of the grounds. No liquor sold (bummer) but plenty of sugary treats .. think sticky cotton candy, cinnamon buns piled up on top a 3 foot stick. Showtime began promptly with prayer & the countries flag paraded with “Pledge of Allegiance”. The show was very entertaining, exciting & full of corny/dirty jokes from the silly rodeo clown, cowboy & cowgirl ropers, barrel racers, bronco & bull riders. I enjoyed it all! It was a good turnout and everyone from the sounds seemed to really LOVE it! As far as carnival rides there were hundreds 💯 with blurs of neon lights permeating the entire area. Sounds of merry-go-rounds, laughter, smells of wild stock & popcorn, and the heat melded it together in unison. Such a great time of year. Buses transported folks from Crown Point H.S. to the fairgrounds making parking FREE & seemingly easy. Tickets at the entry point were sold for $8.00 (adults). (Not sure if rides were a separate fee but most likely yes). Tickets for the show could be purchased prior for a discounted rate of $15.00. The grounds appeared well kept with vendors stationed throughout selling carnival stuff as well as port-potties stationed throughout the park for convenience. I recommend the Lake County Fair for all the happiness it brings to any age (alongside smells of horse manure, livestock & tons of other stinky farm animals). This wraps up another year. A very good & full week...
Read moreI love the fair go every year. it is well laid out. parking is free before three. plenty of food options, a couple places have really inexpensive hot dogs so even those on a budget can feed the kids. the 4-H kids sell ice cream novelties for affordable prices. they are kind of out of the way, but if you are on a budget again you can still treat the kids. the animal buildings are well laid out and ventilated and the kids take good care of them. this year they had baby peeps, ducks and piglets. some of the goats and cows also had young ones.
the fair portion is large. I don't do the rides anymore so I can't really comment. the parking is all in the shade so that is nice. Don't use the $20 and $25 dollar parking the locals charge. fair parking is only $8 and closer...
