My sister is the superintendent of the family arts building. We set up for the Lake County Fair. All the crafts, and food that are entered in the fair. It's a lot of work, and working in a building w/o AC in 90 degree weather, can get pretty uncomfortable. Before the fair opens, the building has to be cleaned. Then they start bringing in, the display units. The next is filling them with all the beautiful crafts and yummy foods. It's really not as easy as it looks. People have no idea, what has to be taken care of before opening day. The Fair grounds, has a lot of different things that they schedule events through our the year. Such as, Flower shows, Craft Fairs, Gun Shows, Breast Cancer walks, and the list goes on. The ladies in the office, are so nice and they do so much. And they are very much appreciated! So if you'd like to come and enter something in the Fair at the Family Arts and Crafts building, please don't be shy, come in and enter. All you do is go to the fair office and sign up. They will mail you a book, showing you what you can enter. We also have a Creative Kids section. They can enter anything from, a coloring page, to paintings, legos, sewing, handmade jewelry and the list goes on. I believe, there is a $20.00 fee, but, you get a pass into the fair, for the 10 or so days it's open, you also get a parking pass, I believe. And if you win something, your ribbon is displayed along side your entry. So here are some of the Quilts, that were made and entered,...
Read moreThe reptile shows held here are the highlights of my year! I love going to look at all the ball pythons, which there is always an abundance of, with the next most common animal seen there being geckos. I have also seen people selling live shrimp and axolotols. I also saw a big snapping turtle, a funny lookin toad, baby tortoises, and a lizard that looked like a mossy log, but I don't know if those were for sale. I love being there so much, and getting so involved in the wonderful time I have that I always forget to take pictures! I'll try to remember next time I go lol. I've been twice already, and both times, all the vendors have been super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, especially Royal Temptations! Sadly, I couldn't get a ball python the two times I've been there, but I'm so excited because I'm going back in November, and I'm gonna get one then! But you don't need to know that, do you? Anyway, this is the best place, in my opinion, to look at snakes and other reptiles! Just take my word for it, or better yet, go yourself!! I promise you'll have a...
Read moreSecond racist encounter I’ve had in one week. Indiana is ridiculous. Went to the one of the first booths. It’s pop balloon(these balloons are in cubbies). Spent $22 because I wanted the biggest prize. Popped every balloon but one. I asked the guy how I could get one more popped to make up for the one I loss. He says I can only buy them in threes. I buy three more, pop two. Still tells me no. Then his partner calls me cheap for not buying more. The best part? It’s all on camera. I go to another booth, they tell me he definitely cheated me. Crazy. Wish I...
