1⭐ Review: Very disappointed with the Switch Lite I brought into so the charge port could be repaired. My daughter was told on pick up and given some BS that the device was unrepairable. While I don't disagree that it's easier, in the world we live in, to buy a new Switch Lite for $175-ish instead of repair the charge port in an old one for $100. But the data was lost for the hundreds of hours of gameplay that was on it.
Here is where it gets disappointing: when I disassembled the device to investigate, I discovered that most of the case screws (4 of 8 are a propriety screwdriver bit, not found just laying around in most homes.) were barely tightened, when I removed the case, I noticed a screw missing from the heatsink/cover plate. I then realized that the heatsink had been removed as the thermal paste bond with the CPU had been broken. I didn't fully remove the components required to properly repair the port, so I don't know if all the screws were put back in the right places, but when I looked at the pins connecting the USB-C port to the board under a microscope, the soldering joints were broken indicating that solder had not flowed. The repair hadn't even been attempted!
I don't have a hot air station and the other tools that make this a fairly easy and more reliable repair. But with a fine pointed soldering iron under a microscope, I was lucky and was able to reflow the solder joints enough that she was able to transfer her data to her new Switch.
Disclaimer I'm not saying that this is an 'easy' repair for everyone, and it should not be attempted unless you know because FAFO if you don't. But it's an easy repair in the device care industry. I'm shocked of the laziness and brute force of the 'technician' who didn't attempt the repair. I would have been a much more satisfied customer if the repair was attempted and it was unsuccessful, even if it was the technician's fault, I would still pay $30 for the time. Read moreNeeded a moderately technical repair done on my phone. When I called into a previous place I walked into before coming to this place, seems like they were willing to assist. But after getting there & explaining my issue again..ended up getting charged 3 times what I'd figure was reasonable rate via their technical expertise ability & time they'd have to spend solving my issue. Fortunately, was able to get my thing solved at uBreakiFix as they saw it as minor issue compared to previous place; The rep @ took a moment helping me figure things out, but in little time my situation was resolved! Were reasonable. End up explaining to me not only how the issue could be solve, but also showed me how to solve it for myself as well for next similar encounter.
Pretty good service in my opinion. Will be repeat customer. The only thing I saw that needed improvement or redo was the physical environment and customer service aspect ratio. The huge open glass setup on the building don't think made consideration (was kind of cold in the place which believe contributed to this overlooked aspect) for customers safety in mind when it was first built. However, there's a wall where employees can go behind when there's no customers, but when when customers come in there's also no way to signal employees when customers come in, nor place for others to sit who are waiting. I scheduled my appointment 1 week in advance, but when I showed up the first time, I was told that they did not have any screen protectors for my phone and they would have to be ordered. It would've been nice if they told me that ahead of time when I made my appointment. So they ordered some screen protectors for me and rescheduled my appointment to the following week. I returned and my screen protector was replaced in about 20 minutes, free of charge, and I was on my way. The screen protector replacement looks good.
On all of my visits, the staff were super friendly and helpful. I feel that I received good service here. It was just very frustrating that despite scheduling my screen protector replacement a week in advance, nobody thought to order the parts I needed or to let me know that the parts weren't there before I arrived.
Overall my experience was good but uBreakiFix should have been more on top of checking that they had all the parts before I arrived the first time considering that the appointment was made by Motorola customer service and included the details of my phone.
