Many of the employees are rude or don't want to do their jobs. Some are amazing, but overall not a great experience.
Most things here are over priced and not great quality. It's rare to find anything that isn't rotten or stale but they will trying to sell it for double the price you'd pay at other grocery stores just a mile away. That's the reduced section. Regular priced items are typically triple what you pay and the quality is disgusting. I've bought chicken liver here that I wouldn't even feed the stray cats/animals with. If you thoroughly examine everything, sometimes you can catch decent sales. But that's rare.
I only really shop here because they are the only place within walking distance to the laundry matt that I know of that gives Cashback without charging anything. I often forget to get money out for laundry when I'm near my bank so get it last minute. Other than them being the only place locally that sells Turkey Hill ice cream, which is my favorite, I try to avoid shopping here when I actually am eating healthy and FRESH and actually want to be frugal.
Issue is many people around this area don't drive and can't even make it down to Kroger to buy better quality food for more reasonable prices. I think PW knows this and that's advantage of that fact.
The fact they also would rather food become completely not edible and continue to try and sell it at such an inflated price even when marked down so they can get a tax write off, than sell it at a reasonable price once it starts going bad to make sure people with low incomes can make use of the food other people with more money clearly don't want, tells me all about the integrity of the people running this store. I'm not a big fan of Kroger but they'd never try to sell fully molded food like PW does weekly. You'll see things in the reduced bin that have been there for months growing mold and they just let it...
Read moreAlthough some of the brand selections are a little limited at times, Piggy's is a great store for just about anything you need. Piggy's meat & produce selections are very fresh & good, and the prices are much more reasonable than the big "K" box stores here in town. The Piggy's store is very well lit, has nice wide aisles without alot of cardboard displays in the way, and the store inside AND outside is much cleaner than the big "K" store Westside location... I've never felt unsafe or harassed in Piggy's parking lot as I have elsewhere! Lastly, the personnel at Piggy's are friendlier, more polite & more willing to be helpful... they don't act like I'm a bother or nuisance interrupting their day.
Hubs & I have been shopping at both the Kanawha City & the Bigley (Ave.) Piggly Wiggly (try saying that 3 times fast!!) stores for 10+ years with very little complaint. We highly recommend...
Read moreI have been going there forever years. About 2-3 months ago the manager gave me permission to take the outdated desserts from the deli, for the seniors at the Rand Commumunity Center, she said it would keep them from throwing them away. Never had a problem until March the 4th 2025. The manager chased me down in the parking lot to say I couldn't take it all anymore bc the owner was cracking down bc he says to much free stuff going out of the store. And from now on I could only get $10 worth at a time. I was so embarrassed the way they chased me down outside, ppl were watching in the parking lot and all was watching me on inside like I was caught stealing. In my opinion I was mad out to be a thief that day the way they handled it. Will never go back there again or recommend that Piggly wiggly...
