Chugwater Rest Area — Local services in Chugwater

At first, super sketchy. Once we pulled in and got situated for an overnight parking stint, we appreciated the separation for cars towing vs cars. Ample room for maneuvering a tow behind, super clean and well lit facilities, bbq area w cover and privacy, gas station across the street. Be warned, you’ll pay $1.50 over per gallon from the average so make sure you have plenty of gas the prior fuel up and don’t wait until you are down a quarter tank. Back to this stop. Great rest stop. Bathrooms are clean, grass is green, no trash anywhere. There is a pump with fresh, cold water. I didn't even have to let it run, it was perfectly clean right away.

There is room to walk, a pet run, picnic shelters, and a path leading to a beautiful view over the land. The pictures you see here don't do it justice, I'll add some of my own.

Great change of name and pace on a long trip. Whoever is maintaining this area...

Just stopped to get some chili mix. The young lady manning the store was out helping a customer at the pumps, so we waited. She related that the 78 year old lady was trying to get home to Oregon from taking her grandson to college. Her credit card did not work and she had no cash. We ask what she was going to do and this wonderful young lady running the place said "I bought her a tank of gas". She will have a special...
