Surgery and team was very good, but the rest of the hospital is a nightmare. There are only 2 "real" hospitals in upstate NY, St. Pete's and AMC. All the other hospitals can only do very limited care and transfer you to St. Pete's. It is a real shame that in an area larger than NJ the two hospitals are only 1/2 a mile apart. Would be nice to have a real hospital covering the north country.
I have been to this hospital many times, and the wait time in the ER is very long. Once in the ER no one comes when you push the call button. Takes about 24 hours each time for them to decide whether to send you home or get you a room. Once upstairs it typically takes 24 hours for a doctor to come in and see you.
X-ray dept and most other depts go home after 8pm. Like Walmart, they shut down parts of the hospital. To save money. So, if you need MRI or CT, or labs, expect to wait till 9am.
The people taking blood are on the job training and take a lot of sticks to get the blood. Lab work gets lost a lot. So do scans and notes don't get transcribed. At night, say after 10pm, there is no one, and I mean no one, and people are pushing those call buttons all night long to no avail.
When code blue is called by the machines it takes 20 mins for nurses to respond, and there are only about 4 in the whole hospital. They come running, but I don't know why, when it has been that long. Saw 2 people code while I was there.
TV costs 25 dollars a day, for over the air broadcasts, total ripoff.
When I needed to have blood drawn downstairs, outpatient, there was only 1 person doing the desk work, and then drawing blood. There was about 10 of us waiting. Took 90 minutes to get called. You take a number, like at the deli.
Food has improved, I have to give them that.
And when leaving after major surgery, where they knew I could not get to the pharmacy, they would not fill RX's for me and send me home with them.
When did hospitals stop doing this ?
Very dirty rooms. A layer of filth can be clearly seen when the sun shines in on the TV and you can feel it when you touch surfaces, very sticky. Bring a bottle of Clorox bathroom cleaner that you can spray on everything, and bring some paper towels. You really need family to help you while you are at St Pete's.
The fault is with the hospital cutting staff to the bone, and then further.
The kick to the teeth was the day I left they were having a party downstairs for the investors and they had very expensive food and wine and private armed police that kept all the patients from being able to use that entrance. They even hung drapes from the 3rd floor down to create a "wall" so the rich people did not have to see the patients. Really made me sick.
I am trying very hard to move south to get better care.
Surgeon and his team was great, but the staff is spread way to thin to handle the patients, and this is by design. This is the business model of the company that owns St Pete's. Max profit, that is what they care about most.
The fact that the first and second floor look more like a shopping mall than a hospital says a lot too.
The cardiac support group is controlled by St Pete's and they have two St Pete's employees, I think they are lawyers, that moderate ( read controlled ) the group. If you try to say anything negative about the hospital you get knocked down before you get two words out, and if you insist on making your point, you get told to leave.
AMC has mixed reviews, but I have had good care when I have gone there. I would recommend going there, if you can.
Saratoga Hospital is very good. They can't handle cardiac or anything major, but they are a really good hospital. I go there when I can. A lot of times they have to transfer me to St Pete's.
I wish they would expand Saratoga Hospital
You absolutely need family and friends to be with you as much as possible when at St. Pete's, you will get better care if they see a lot of people coming to see...
Read moreEvery day this hospital goes into decline, it hurts and is a shame that a hospital called St Peters which is Catholic, is forgetting its true essence, why do you have a Catholic name if you are not going to represent Christ oranywhere, in hospitals, medical offices, offices, the Christian faith is not professed anywhere, there are no images, there are no messages from God anywhere, the other day they told me that it is prohibited because they do not want anyone to feel uncomfortable, mmm the only ones who complain about there being images are those atheists, who are full of tattoos, nurses and doctors who work in a Catholic hospital, they say it is because they receive Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, now including the “woke” this world is already lost. It has become a den of thieves God does not say that we should reject anyone but that does not mean that we have to stop professing the faith just for the great minority. God says love God above all things and your brother as yourself... and we have taken God out of our lives, our hospitals, our own churches,... where is the respect for God? There is none because they have preferred money over God himself. It is forbidden in this hospital and office to have religious images, it is forbidden to have biblical verses because they do not want anyone to be offended, but they are offending the greatest who is God. This is a CATHOLIC hospital, which should represent GOD in every corner of the hospital, in all hospitals and medical offices should have the representation of GOD. Mainly in places like pediatrics and obgyn because they are where families most frequently go Families are in decline, full of domestic violence, we have lost the essence of who we are and where we come from, this hospital was not only created to heal the physically ill but also spiritually and mentally. Who fights the problem of mental health, drug addiction, robberies, muggings, heals families. This world is totally lost and how it hurts and bothers me being an evangelizer and preacher of Jesus and the Holy Family that a hospital being supposedly Catholic with a Catholic man rejects his own Christian faith, God triune and one. Families are in decline full of domestic violence we have lost the essence of who we are and where we come from, this hospital was not only created to heal the physically sick but also spiritually and mentally. Professing faith does not mean explaining in luxury and leaving out details to no one, it is evangelizing quietly, having images of the Holy Family, of Jesus. You can have statements everywhere about “I am,” “I can,” and all that, but you can’t have Bible verses that talk about the same thing. In the Bible it appears 365 times, don’t be afraid. It talks about love for God and for others, and that is prohibited in this hospital. That is why there are so many bad reviews in all the offices, because it has become a den of thieves… if you don’t want to profess the faith, then change the name of the hospital. If it bothers you that the other who doesn’t believe is offended, then take the name off. You have become hypocrites in the eyes of God. Did you know that Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists all believe in Christ and see him as a teacher, which would not really be a problem to have Jesus and the Holy Family in the hospital, but they let the atheists, the devils manage our hospitals, our churches. This has become Sodom and Gomorrah, and even in the Catholic churches they are celebrating pagan festivals like Halloween. What world are we in? I ask you, if you are not going to profess the faith of God in a silent way, to remove the name of Saint Peter. And put a name that fits this hospital because you are not representing God, nor the...
Read moreI had surgery (metal plate with six screws) to secure a fractured tibia and was brought to St. Peter’s “6 Pavilion” for acute care. The block from surgery quickly wore off and I was in excruciating pain and agony. I kept telling the nurse that I was at a “10” pain level and could not bear it, but she would only give me a small amount of morphine every 4 hours (3 doses total) which gave me about an hour of relief and a total of 3 oxycodone which only helped a little with that level of pain. Plus, it would take forever for her to get it to me ( I’d have to hit the call button, wait for someone, explain to them I was past due for pain meds, they would say they’d tell my nurse . When and if the nurse came, I would have to explain again that I needed pain meds, she would say ok I’ll be with you shortly, then come 20 mins later to give meds that took 20 min to take effect). I asked one person if I could see a nursing supervisor ( hoping that they could help) and was told “I’m on the other side tonight and we are busy” (so l guess that meant no) When a doctor came to see me in the morning, he could tell I was in terrible pain and said of course I should be getting more morphine and pain relief and he would take care of it. He left and I didn’t see him again until the next day. When the ”day” nurse Rosie (who was starting her shift)and the night nurse Summer (who was ending her shift) came into my room together, I told them what the doctor had said. They told me to ”be quiet”. They said they would not give me more medicine because I “would stop breathing “. They said they dispense meds “at their discretion” and that I was “panicking“. I said No, I’m just trying to explain how much pain I have. They scolded me and said I needed to be “educated” and ”weened off“. I knew then that my situation was hopeless. This nurse “Rosie” gave me one oxy at 8:00 am then left and I didn’t see her again until around 3:00 pm when she gave me a Tylenol. ( I also heard her out in the hallway making fun of me a couple of times) I asked her then if she would please get me an ice pack and she said she’d have a tech get me one. (Of course I never got one). She also said “did you see PT yet?” and when I said no and she said ”that’s weird” and just left. That is the only time she came into my room the entire day after the berating she gave me that morning. Also, the cuff they put on my leg to prevent clots didn’t work, and I told at least 5 different people. Some said they would get me a new one (but never did) and one said it didn’t matter and “promised me” that I would not get a clot. My husband and sister tried to come help but the hospital would not allow visitors in because of the corona pandemic. They tried getting someone to get me some water to drink but were unsuccessful. Fortunately the new night nurse that I evening was great! She got me ice packs and water. She even looked under my brace and checked my leg. (no one else had done that) She brought pain meds in at the scheduled time without me having to beg. She seemed to care about me and my comfort! But that first night and day were just so BAD!! You just can’t make up for that horrible feeling lying their helpless and in such excruciating pain with no relief and no one willing to help!! My pain level decreased on its own by the second night to about an 8, so I didn’t need the morphine (which they wouldn’t give me anyway) and the oxy worked fine. I came home yesterday and doing so much better! Will never go to St....
