I normally do not like leaving negative reviews, but my experience with this company was so bad that I feel I have to warn others. I hired Kitchen Image, who also operate under the name Tauland Kitchen & Bath, for basement waterproofing in April 2024. At the time I was searching for a true waterproofing specialist but only came across general contractors. They assured me they had the experience and even claimed to have built houses from the ground up, so I trusted them with the project.
The company is run by several brothers, but I only dealt with Tony, Danny, and Jack. I explained very clearly that water was coming in from two corners of the basement. Tony recommended outdoor excavation as the âbetterâ solution and insisted we did not need both interior and exterior waterproofing, even though I was willing to do both. Based on his confidence, I agreed.
Red flags appeared early. The quote was full of construction jargon, and when I asked Danny to explain, he acted as if I was bothering him and said everything was already written in detail. I told him it was not clear, and only after pressing did he finally explain their plan. Once work started, communication was poor. They never told me when they were coming or leaving, Tony rarely appeared, and they made changes without consulting me. Worse, the brothers gave conflicting information. Danny would say one thing, Tony another, which made it impossible to trust them.
One major example: they promised PVC piping for drainage but later swapped it for a âwaterproof meshâ without informing me. The only reason I found out was because I demanded proof, and the video they sent showed nothing but mesh. Inside, the paint job was sloppy and not even the black waterproofing paint they had described.
Within a week of completion, water was still coming in from the exact same two corners I had pointed out at the start. When I called, Tony said I now needed to pay an additional $5,000 for an interior French drain. This was infuriating because I had asked upfront if both inside and outside needed to be done and was told âno.â Their work came with a supposed two-year guarantee, yet instead of honoring it, they tried to upsell me more work.
When I refused, Jack came and argued with me in my own basement. He told me that he was ânot a water magicianâ and could not predict where the water was coming from, even though I had already identified the same two corners before the job began.
In total, I spent $12,500 and ended up in the exact same position: water in my basement, pumping it out to prevent damage, and no accountability from this company. By April 2025, I hired AM Shield, a reputable waterproofing specialist, who corrected the work properly. Their solution has held through heavy rain with no issues, proving that Kitchen Imageâs work was the problem all along. This review is being written in September 2025, less than two years later, after giving their work ample time to prove itself. I have also attached photos that show both the sloppy paint job and how the basement continued to flood even after their work.
Even if you are not hiring them for waterproofing and are simply looking for renovations, I still would not recommend them. The lack of communication, sloppy workmanship, and refusal to honor guarantees make them a poor choice. My mother also hired them for a bathroom renovation and experienced her own red flags, which shows this is not a one-off problem.

âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ Iâve had the pleasure of working with Tauland Kitchen and Bath twice, and both experiences have been absolutely outstanding. They arenât just contractorsâthey are true professionals who treat every project with care, attention, and dedication. The team of Danny, Jack, Nick, and the entire Tauland crew made both renovations smooth, enjoyable, and completely stress-free.
From start to finish, the team was exceptional. Danny kept communication clear and consistent, ensuring I knew what to expect at every stage. Jackâs craftsmanship is unparalleledâevery detail, from the finishing touches to the overall layout, was flawless. Nick brought dedication, reliability, and problem-solving skills that made the entire process seamless. The rest of the team worked with the same professionalism and respect for my home, making me feel confident that my projects were in capable hands.
Renovations can often come with uncertainties, such as unexpected findings after demolition or adjustments to the timeline. What stood out to me was how Tauland handled everything with honesty, transparency, and professionalism. Any unexpected issues were explained clearly, solutions were presented, and the team stayed focused on delivering the best possible result. Their integrity and expertise turned potentially stressful moments into reassurance, and the project continued smoothly without compromise.
Both of my projects were completed beautifully, on schedule, and within budget. My kitchen and bathroom now feel like true works of artâstunning, functional, and thoughtfully designed. Friends and family are constantly amazed, and I feel proud every time I walk into these spaces. HIGHLY...
Read moreWe had our kitchen remodeled about 2 years ago. I regret not writing then to warn others. Danny and his team made everything sound real wonderful including timeline. It was supposed to be a 4-5 week project which lasted 8-9 weeks and many weeks , absolutely no work was being done. We had to constantly call to follow up. When the job was âdoneâ we noticed some things not right like crooked cabinets, poorly installed doors to even parts of crown modeling missing. Then when we called to have Danny come check, it was like we are the crazy ones. They had no more of the crown modeling because âit came from another job and they had nothing left. They had to wait.â Now we have a piece of modeling that was just stuck there. For the price we paid it is a joke. Now time passes, our faucet is already broken, to find the original wrench that was used was the cause of the damage and leak. Danny accepted it was his guys thy left it there but was unwilling to do anything else. Many cracks are happening in between the wall tiles and where the countertops meet the wall. Bottom line- do...
