Great spirits and conversation to lift yours! After having bookmarked this distillery for over a year, I finally found myself in the area for work and decided to book a tour on a weekday afternoon. The owners, David and Dorit, hosted me for almost an hour as we chatted over generous tastings of their signature mahia, as well as whiskey, bourbon, and their distilled beer liquor called Yonkers. That last one was a nice, complex surprise, but of course, I came for the mahia, which I tried straight up and then mixed with a bit of ginger liqueur and lemon juice. What a hidden gem! Located in an industrial park in Yonkers, this is one cool place to visit. The owners, David and Dorit Nahmias, graciously came in early after we called to see where they were located. David told us the history of Mahia, a fig brandy that originated in Morrocco. So interesting to learn about the distilling process for it, but tasting it, wow! We visited the Nahmais et Fils distillery this weekend.
