What brought me here to the store in Genoa was an advertised special on accent chairs for $100. We were promptly met at the door just 3 steps in by a smiling young man that introduced himself, asked what brought us in, we replied and he led us off the the discounted section to show us the 6 available chairs being offered in the promotion. He left us there to "look around" which is what most people do, he came back within a few minutes and noticed we sat down in some other style chairs, then let us be for again just a few more minutes.
We decided to just continue walking the store as Art Van usually never disappoints in selection of EVERYTHING they have to offer, then here is where things started just getting creepy to us. I noticed our unofficial assigned sales rep glaring at us, partially attempting to conceal himself from a hanging rack of floor rugs, waiting for his next check in with us as we ventured around, we politely stated that we are still just looking around......Then as we began walking, another couple was walking towards us, they were unaware that hot on their heels was this female sales lady going full bore trying to catch up to them, and if and I mean literally IF that couple would have slowed to stop to look at any of the fine pieces of furniture along their way, this sales lady would of collided with them, much like those tragic dash cam videos you see of a 80,000 lbs semi truck entering a construction zone where stopped traffic is in front of them, and the driver just plows up onto the backs of all the cars, ya,.......and just before she was in arms length, she shouts out "HI FOLKS WHAT BRING YOU IN". Keep in mind this is from behind, not the front.....just seems startling to the unexpected.
We chuckled as we continued walking, again, met by our smiling sales rep asking how we were doing, then we over heard him asking a question , and heard a response which appeared to be coming from an ear bud or walkie talkie set up on him, then he as well scurried off like a secret agent getting vital information on a wanted persons location, he then gave chase to another couple that just entered the store.
The whole sales approached just seemed uncomfortable and somewhat desperate. We drove down the street to Furniture Palace, and as we entered the young man working there was seated at the counter, asked how we were doing, and said "When you see something you like, or have any questions at all, just wave me down". He never once got up to run after us, or anyone else. We were in there easily 10-12 minutes before we found something we liked enough to ask him a question about, then we even did research on his Ipad he brought out to us, socialized before and after the sale. We were in the store for an hour easily even buying an additional item we did not plan on. Total different sales approach here and it worked in the stores favor as well as ours as he even matched Amazon's pricing.
Furniture just like cars will sell themselves. The sales reps are there simply to offer assistance and ehh, suggestive purchases warranties, upgrades etc, and not be a pest chasing people around. Unfortunately that is how it felt, at least today it did. We will likely return in the future I am sure of it, They offer a great selection, but the sales tactics should adjust a bit. Make people feel welcome, not chased around..... That is what Furniture Palace did and they got our business today on our purchase. 3 stars for all the positives. Just my experience and not likely of others as it appears the location takes pride in reputation and values feedback as I noticed from...
Read moreOriginally I purchased my couch form the Samsen Furniture Outlet in Perrysburg Ohio, and the woman that helped me order the couch was great and I was really happy with the price. However, when the delivery men came to my apartment with the couch they could not get it through the door because of the angles of the hallway. I suggested that they ask the tenant across from me to open their door to create more space. They said, "there was no way to tell that would work". SO, trusting them I asked what they wanted to do. They wanted to try the back door on my patio. While I was holding the screen door for them, they shattered the glass on the door, cut my finger with a piece of falling glass, and ruined the couch in the process. I asked to speak to their manager on the phone and he was very apologetic and nice. He paid for my broken door and said that he would pay for my stitches if I needed them. After all of this, I was told to go to the store in Genoa since the outlet was out of business now. I had already put a deposit down on the couch that was ruined so I needed to select a different couch. While in Genoa the sales manager told me that I could reorder the couch I originally purchased but it would take 6-8 weeks. This was a long time to wait, plus I was nervous to order the same couch because of what happened with the delivery men the first time. So I selected a sectional in the store instead. It was more than I originally spent, and it was a floor model so I was hesitant being a young masters student on a budget. She did the math in front of my boyfriend and I, and said the couch without tax would be 1,099. I went home to think about this since my original couch was only 838. Finally, I decided I would take the sectional. I really needed a couch and I was willing to spend the extra money, but that was the absolute most I could spend. 15 MINUTES LATER, the sales manager called me back and said the couch was actually going to be 1,129, not 1,099. I WAS FURIOUS! I called her right back and said that with the 6 months financing, that was going to be way to much for me to handle a month, 1,099 was my absolute cap. Even though it was a difference of 30 dollars she refused. She made the mistake with the math, and still refused. She explained that the store "wasn't doing well" and couldn't do 1,099. Well, that was enough for me. I asked for my deposit back, I was done. With a broken door, hurt finger, a ruined couch, and a tight budget. I WAS DONE. I asked for my deposit back. She paused on the phone and said, "if that's your prerogative". I WAS STUNNED! I have never experienced this type of service in my life. I had her credit my account and hung up the phone. Needless to say, I will NEVER be going back to...
Read moreThought we were buying a very nice sectional. Power recliners on one section and manual on the other. The wedge came ripped. The power recliner sectional started falling apart with a couple weeks. Made with very cheap wood and cardboard armrests. Thank God we purchased the insurance. But certain items it does not cover. Two of our cushions are ripped all the way across. They say that is normal wear and tear. Maybe if it was a few years old, not months old. It's always a hassle when we call for the insurance number. Like we are an inconvenience to them. Crazy thing is we'll be buying a bigger house in a couple years and would've used Art Van floor all new future. I'd rather use Big Lots than Art Van. We went to Art Van because we thought they were a higher quality furniture store. They are not. They...
