I was extremely disappointed when I went into Big Basket 2 days ago to find none of the local young people manning the cash registers & bagging groceries. I went to the deli to get some Nadine's Chicken Salad & Pimento Cheese, only to find it closed. The only gentleman in the store working offered to go get some for me, but I declined because he didn't offer until I was almost out the door. So, I went back yesterday hoping to see the sweet ladies that used to work in the deli, but they're gone too! A young man was washing dishes, after about 10 minutes of trying get his attention, I yelled "Hello! Does anyone work in the deli?" He looked in the mirror, but could see me, so I waved my cane in the air so he came to investigate. I requested a half pound of each Nadine's salads, I watched as he took a large spoonful of each & just slapped it into the containers. As I looked more closely at the deli case, I almost left the salads there because each item in the deli case is on a long tray piled high with large amounts of each item covered in plastic wrap. Previously, the items in the deli case were always in much smaller dishes to maintain the upmost freshness. I thought about this as I looked at the large, overfilled trays covered in plastic wrap. My first thought was concerning the freshness of the items I selected, but I thought maybe they sell so much they have to keep the large quantities out! When I got home, the Nadine's salads we terrible, they weren't spoiled, but they were NOT fresh! The taste of both items were awful, to the point you almost couldn't tell if they were just old or spoiled. I am going to contact Nadine to let her know my concerns because I think she would want to know! I will be returning these items later today and we will be looking to go and have a decent meal since last night's dinner ended up as yogurt, potato chips & dip, candy bars, & jello! It breaks my heart to see what had become of our local IGA store that has always been run with so much Love & Care for their customers! It's...
Read moreFirst time in Big Basket since it changed over. I normally don't write reviews however it was such a negative experience I felt that I needed to vent. The store looked well stocked and clean however I saw some ham lunch meat that had definitely gone bad and had turned brown. So the meat department person was restocking some meat and I felt that she should be aware, hate for someone to get sick. She asked me to take her to the spoiled lunch meat, I pointed it out and she grabbed it, slammed the fridge door and hurried off in a huff to the back with attitude!!!! As she booked off out of sight, I said you are welcome. Really that is no way to act or treat customers especially when I was very polite about it. Checking out was about as friendly and no chicken pot pies were to be seen in the warmer. So sad to see such a nice place with negative employees. Unfortunately, now I will travel a bit further from home and take our business elsewhere. Extremely disappointed, I hate putting this review out there, however maybe it can be addressed properly and a positive change made...
Read moreI have hesitated to do a review since the new owners took over. We live in a small town and need shopping options. A lot of people like this store but I am not sure why. The prices are 30 cents to $ 3.00 + dollars more per item than other stores for the same brand . They do have a few things that are "special" to this store but it's not your everyday items. They have a small deli , limited produce. Their milk ( store brand ) is 1.50$ more than other store brands in the area. The speciality milk which is also carried by another grocer in town is $2 more than the other store. Limited baby supplies. Canned food is 20 to 75 cents more per can than the other stores even up to a 1$. The meat well there steaks are 5$+ dollars more . Very limited pet supplies and wet food. I will say that in the summer they do buy some fruit and veggies from local farmers and I appreciate that. On a personal note I don't care for this store and use it as little as possible based on the above. I do wish the...
