Ansolutely the best donuts in the Universe!
We come from Nashville, TN to spend special occasions in the area and this is ALWAYS our first stop in town! We have been coming here for 17 years now! These donuts are so light and literally melt in your mouth and are never greasy!
They are always fresh. Don't see what you want on the shelf; they will make it fresh for you while you wait!
The Apple Cinnamon are my absolute favorite...full of fresh chopped apples and cinnamon, not too sweet, but full flavored and fruity! Strawberry filled is my second favorite...followed by the Bavarian cream!
This is a family owned business; the couple have been married 30 years and reside in the Bavarian section of Helen, GA. His wife knits bavarian style scarves, gloves and sweaters and has them for sale in the display case at the shop.
They have a teenage daughter that works with them and they are teaching her the family tradition and recipes!
Even though we come here only 2-3 times a year the family always recognize and welcome us! We get a dozen donuts when we arrive to take to our cabin, eat two while there with a tall glass of milk and pick up 6 dozen on our way out of town to take back home to our family, friends and co-workers! It is a tradition for us and our family!
Even after a week, these donuts are more fresh and tasty than a Dunkin Donut or Krispy Kreme straight out of the cooker! Microwave them 10 seconds and you would swear they were just cooked fresh! We've even started buying asn additional 2 dozen to take home and freeze in ziplock baggies by 2's, to have for a donut fix anytime we may want one...just microwave it and go!
We don't ever eat a donut from anywhere else anymore, except to try out a new place and rate it against the Ultimate Standard in Killer Donuts!
You'll never regret trying...
Read moreOkay so these donuts 100% deserve even more than 5 stars. We arrived in the drivethru (the inside is locked up tight due to covid) on a Sunday at 11:10am. There was no menu anywhere in sight. We were served by an older gentleman who was anything but gentle. We advised him we found his shop on google and had never been before so we did not know what to order because we didn't know what he had. He very brashly told us that he was closing at 12 so most of his items were unavailable. We persisted and asked what was available. He closed the window locked it back and stepped away. He returned with a sheet of paper with our options. He told us he didnt have anything frosted. We asked if he had cream filled he said yes. We asked what kind he said white powdered and chocolate frosted. (Wait? Didn't he just say....nevermind) We ordered 3 of those and then ordered a couple cake donuts as well as a hot cocoa. He closed the window, locked it and disappeared again. He came back with the hot cocoa and took the debit card. Then he locked window and left again. This continued until he brought each kind of donut back bagged separately. Then a final time when he returned the debit card. Mind you the sheet of paper had no prices and he collected the debit card without giving us a price. So we laughed it off and waited to see the receipt to find out what we were charged. Turns out $7.64 (whew that could have been bad). When we left the drive thru it was now 11:40 - haha? Is this how he assures he won't have to serve many more customers before the 12 closing time? Anyway if you can put aside the terribly slow service and the blatantly rude grouchy old man you will reap the benefits of absolute heaven when you bite into one of these donuts. Bonus, they are apparently...
Read moreSome of the best doughnuts I've ever had, especially the apple fritter! With more and more people eating sub-par doughnuts from supermarkets and franchises, the culinary masterpieces that this store provides are unknown to many and definitely worth seeking out. If you're not in a hurry, there are plenty of tables inside where you can sit and enjoy your purchase while sipping coffee. There were a lot of local people inside doing just that and enjoying a relaxing Saturday morning while talking about the topic of the week. This is like a donut store from my childhood, minus the cigarette smoke. America doesn't run on Dunkin - don't believe their slogan or believe their doughnuts are anything...
