I'm from Rhode Island, the Ocean State, but I work in the area during the week. I can't live without fresh seafood. Found this beautiful seafood and gourmet market near Lemont, and bought a 1 lb fresh cod filet. It was exceptionally fresh! Market sells a variety of fresh fish, and some Italian Staples like squid (from largest squid fishing port in the US, Port of Galilea Rhode Island), Baccalá (dried, salted cod), smelts and octopus. The scallops are fresh from New Bedford, MA, the largest scallop fishing port in the country, known for the sweetest local Atlantic sea scallops. The fish market is co-located with an authentic butcher shop where Victor, who raises the cattle on his farm nearby, has the most amazing cuts of meat. (Victor is there 2 days a week). Both the seafood market and butcher shop were impeccably clean when I visited. The market has a wonderful selection of gourmet food items from Maine and from local artisans. Highly...
Read moreThis place is amazing!! I had passed it many times without stopping in and I’m so glad I made the stop. From my understanding, I believe they get fresh deliveries from Maine three days a week. So far, I’ve gotten the seasoned shrimp (so delicious over Fasta Pasta, which you can also buy there,) the jumbo gulf shrimp, and the Norwegian salmon. I love that they also have other shelf-stable Maine goodies from places like Bar Harbor. Every time I have gone there, the staff has been super helpful in assisting me in my decision-making and offering tips for preparing the seafood well. Peggy and Graham are usually the ones helping when I’ve gone. Also, they have to-go soup which is delicious and a great price for a quick lunch or snack. Love...
Read moreAs a former commercial fisherman I have great appreciation for what these people are bringing to the area. You have not really had scallops until you've had them fresh - not cleaned with chemicals and packaged with preservatives and pumped with water to add weight like in the grocery stores. Many types of seafood are coming in from all over the world now with labels that say codfish for example, but it's not codfish. Trust me. Stop wondering if you are really eating whats on the label and shop at Maine and Berry. The guy makes a fish run to Maine a couple of times a week. Now all we need is a someone to start a decent bakery...
