This morning I spend the night at the hospital. I had some questions and the talented Ms. Burkey, house supervisor, took my questions ever so well.
She was open with information. Having the need for a health professional with the Spanish and English language skill sets she advised the hospital does not hire based on ethnicity.
She then shared contracts are in place for the phone line translation service provider.
As someone who tolerates technology and having grandparents and parents who don't know the ins and outs of tech I would like to make a request to resolve this situation.
This request is made because I know my family is not the only one who speaks Spanish in the Collierville area. Collierville is an inclusive community and we need representation of professionals in the medical realm.
May I please request to seek and hire health professionals who are multilingual? I know they exist in the Greater Memphis area already.
Language is a skill set not an ethnicity.
Thank you for looking out and providing your due diligence for our community.
Ms. Burkey, your leadership is paramount to the health of our community since this is the only hospital in Collierville as of yet.
Thank you for your time and attention in this matter. I really do appreciate the opportunity you gave me to get to know you. I trust this hospital is in good hands as God is in control. Thank you Ms. Burkey. Looking forward to learning more from you.
In the meantime rest well.
Response to phone call offer: no need for phone call. Given enough time already. Please use this post for future reference as you work to revise and update staffing model to reflect all languages spoken in Collierville. 08.29.2025.
UPDATE 09.04.2025. If you can provide an email to which I can provide information to I'll copy and paste this information so it can properly be documented for appropriate action to be taken. Though I have no say in these matters. Not sure why a hospital is being reactive instead of proactive when they are dealing in matters of life or death. Common sense holds true here and so does the golden rule. If you are sick or almost dying do you want to speak to someone through a screen, a phone or have someone lovingly hold you as you transition into the next life? I know my answer. What is yours?
Also I have yet to receive an email update from Ms. Burkey. Not even an acknowledgement that she received my email. I do know I'm a small person and my mamamama doesn't even have a red cent to her name. It's ok. We have each other and our family. Life is...
Read moreMy entire visit was horrible from beginning to end! That would’ve never made this review if it had not been sent to me in a link from Baptist. I guess that is a common practice after each visit. Since they asked; let me tell you, it was absolutely horrible!!!
I actually called and filed an official complaint with a patient care advocate days ago, in hopes that they would make it right and no one has even call me back. In the first 10 minutes, I was mistaken for another patient, and taken back to draw blood. I had to let them know that it was the wrong name...same last name different first name. No checks and balances. That was the first thing.
Then I was asked to give a urine sample while in the waiting room and to KEEP it myself until I went to triage. That was absolutely disgusting and so unsanitary!!! I was so taken back that I asked several times. I was told that it was a normal practice there.
I waited for several hours and finally saw the doctor for maybe two minutes and I’m being generous. Also, I had been placed in the hallway, not even in a room. There was no level of privacy. I was right at an emergency entrance, so people kept coming in and out right past my bed…just sitting there in the hallway with a huge vent, blowing freezing cold air on me.There was no call button, no way for me to ask for any assistance from the nurse. I stayed here for hours.
Basically, it was a lot of waiting with no real care. They expect patience on the side of the patients; which is understandable, but I expect the same level of patience on their end when I finally get to speak to the doctor. However, after all that waiting, the doctor was very rude and spent a little to no time even hearing my concerns. She ordered a CT scan and x-ray, and I waited another hour. The CT tech was very impatient and rude. Overall, I only saw my nurse at the initial check-in when she placed me in the hall. She only came back after my CT scan and at discharge.
My experience overall was extremely poor. The patient care was nonexistent, and I left still not having answers for the very thing that I came in concerned about. I would never recommend this hospital to anyone. This was my first and last time coming to Baptist Collierville. The only reason I actually went on this day is because someone recommended it and said that they were pretty fast and efficient. That was not the case. In all, I waited about five hours, and spent only a few minutes with the actual doctor. I still have no answers. I felt extremely rushed and uncared for during this...
Read moreSince being diagnosed with severe Chron's, I'm admitted to baptist collierville twice a year for the last 6 years. When my blood count is off they will admit me. The doctors and the nurses are exceptional in their care for patients, the nurses and doctors go above and beyond to make sure that we are taking care of and are put in a better position to come out and be better. However there is a big drop off when it comes to dietary and housekeeping. For 6 years I've seen this dietary program not be up to par to patients needs. On May 24th my nurse Jasmine along with the nurse manager was contacting dietary for about 4 hrs. It was so bad she went and made me a plate myself this has happened numerous times of my state at Baptist collierville housekeeping is even worse they would like to argue with you about cleaning your room don't want to clean the room say they're going to come back and never does. Something really needs to be done with dietary and housekeeping these doctors and nurses are exceptional but the rest of their team is letting them down and that's dietary and housekeeping their needs to be a clean house method and dietary and housekeeping and start holding people accountable there is no accountability in dietary I even try to talk to the dietary manager and basically what she told me was what do you want me to do very arrogantly. I'm not done with this I've actually been trying to speak to someone and administration things and dietary and housekeeping or out of hand and it starts with the tops of these departments there again their needs to be a clean house attitude start from scratch and start holding people accountable anything goes when it comes to dietary and housekeeping that's the only thing I dislike about baptist collierville other than that Baptist collierville is the best hospital to me in this region...
