The following is a portion of the email sent to the Collierville, TN general manager and the front desk supervisor two days ago, and have received no response at this time.
"...First off, when my family and I arrived on Thursday Aug. 3rd, we immediately noticed a highly humid and clammy atmosphere in both adjoining rooms, room 131 and 133. Having a work history in Facility maintenance myself, I recognized the room PTAC unit was plugged and retaining condensation water, preventing proper air drying. In addition to the PTAC problem, we noticed neither room had a working bathroom vent fan, again preventing proper air movement and ventilation in the room. Secondly, room 131 (my room) had the smoke alarm go off for no reason at 2:00 am Friday morning, until I removed the 9 volt battery. I then replaced it myself once the maintenance staff arrived later. Upon waking up on Friday morning, my wife and I found standing water droplets covering the tile floor leading to the bathroom (see the attached pictures). The adjoining room (room 133) also had the same problem. Another evidence of a ventilation problem was chewing gum left out on a tissue on the desk overnight was so badly saturated with "dew" that it melted the outer candy coating and soaked the tissue. ( I've never seen that happen indoors before, this was not normal.) The floor, bed sheets, pillows, upholstered chairs, towels, and wood surfaces remained damp to the touch until I went to the front desk Friday afternoon to retrieve the dehumidifier left for me by Dave. We had to run the dehumidifier constantly in both rooms with the PTAC unit on 75 degrees in order for the air quality to feel close to normal. Over the next two days we emptied over 6 full dehumidifier buckets (8.5 pts. per bucket), or over 6 gallons of water. (This was not normal) Finally, after a family member developed aggravated allergies by the next morning, we all decided it would be best to forgo the fourth night we had reserved in room 131 and just check out completely. Talking with other family members staying in this hotel and other guests, I found out we were not alone in our experience, but to a lesser degree than what we experienced. I found the hotel staff to be caring and sympathetic to our troubled stay, but powerless to change or help it..."
I really hope that we can resolve the issues and concerns so I can post a much better comment in a follow up review. We were charged over $900 for our stay, and were only comfortable when we were out of the room. The breakfast food set up was...
Read moreMy experience with Hampton Inn Memphis/Collierville were outlined in detail in the survey I just completed. Briefly, in over 50 years of business and leisure travel throughout the United States and numerous foreign countries I have stayed in hundreds of hotels including all major chains and at all levels of luxury and flea bags. HAMPTON INN MEMPHIS/COLLIERVILLE IS THE BEST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN. I have no idea what individual hotel I would consider to be number 2, but I can assure you it would be a long way behind this one.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing my friends on the hotel staff, particularly at Christmas time. I certainly missed seeing Kathy, the general manager, who was on vacation. She's a great GM. The 'hotel operated efficiently, courteously, and professionally in her absence. I knew it would. She hires top notch people who know their jobs, they are trained well, and they are proud of the jobs they do. They don't need close supervision because they are all professionals. I always listen for comments while I'm eating breakfast. It's easy to identify the first-time guests at this hotel. They talk about the staff and how great they are. The return guests already know what to expect from this staff and are not surprised by how professional they are.
I enjoyed meeting Anastasia, a new employee since my last visit. It was her second day of work there and as I would expect, she was getting the job done in the breakfast area while being trained.
Thanks to all of this great team for another outstanding stay at Hampton Inn...
