The Bamyan Halal Meat convenience store opened up in my neighborhood 4 days ago at: 5134 Thunder Hill Road, Columbia, MD 21045

If you enjoy Pakistani, Indian, Sri Lankan food, or just looking to try something new and different with South Asian spice, this is where you want to shop. They have a huge selection of spices, frozen items, naan bread, and items you will not likely find in a standard grocery store chain.

Since they just opened less than a week ago, they are still adding products to their inventory.

I shopped there yesterday and bought some lamb meat and a curry spice packet, which I cooked last night; it was very flavorful and I truly enjoyed it.

After dinner, I did some online research as to what I hope a halal store might stock. Today I went in to ask the owner if he would be adding some of the items I sought; he was very gracious and asked me to text him the list I made on my phone. I had overlooked one of the items I sought, that was in the refrigerated cabinet; beef mortadella with pistachios.

If you call a couple hours ahead, they will season meat in the butchers case for you.

It is a quintessential family owned business.

EDIT I don't know the owner of this store on a personal level, but I googled them to call and ask for prices with specific cuts of meat. Let me tell you, I was disappointed in the reviews because of the way I see fake negative comments.

The owner is one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. Him and the lady both are always helpful, soft-spoken and so polite. He always goes out of his way to help any customer in the store. I've witnessed this many times.

I even had a very personal conversation with the woman who works behind the register and she was so kind and compassionate.

The meat is always clean and fresh and you can see how much pride they take in their business. Please do not believe these fake reviews that are negative.

Banyan has organic chicken, organic goat, beef (he buys the cow whole and cuts it himself~Ribs, chuck roast, steaks. NOT just different “cuts” of the leg). He has frozen mlookheya and frozen bamya, beef and turkey bacon, other lunch meat. Afia and Orlando brand grape leaves. I mainly go to the halal stores to buy meat, but just went through it quickly to see what items I can get in the future. I bought beef and it was excellent.
