Five Below — Local services in Columbia

My husband and I were shopping with our two children for school supplies. As kids do, they were excited and asking questions about items. At the same time, other Hispanic and Caucasian families were in the store with their children behaving in a similar way.

Despite this, when my family walked toward the front of the store, three women (two Caucasian and one Hispanic) positioned themselves at the entrance and watched my children intently as though they were stealing. We were the only Black family in the store, and the surveillance ended only once we reached the register. Their behavior made it painfully obvious that my family was being profiled based on race.

This experience was humiliating and disheartening. No parent should have to explain to a 9-year-old child why they are being treated differently simply because of the color of their skin. My children deserve to enjoy the same innocence and freedom as every other child in your store. Instead, they were made to feel like suspects while others...

I love the vintage candy that you can’t find anywhere else. I like the fact that they have a little something for everybody. They are always on trend with the seasons. There is a great selection of books for all ages. The staff is always friendly and willing to help. I love coming here for socks, snacks, adult coloring books and markers. Five Below is basically a one stop shop for snacks, toys, crafts, clothing and accessories, home decor and personal items at a good price. I buy everything from here....i love this store! The only i don't like is how 5 below as a company has an Apple bias. Anything and everything for iPhones but not much for Android devices. Example...i bought a portable charger that says on the box its universal and works on "most devices". On the back in teeny print it says it will only fully charge an iphone (not in those words but i don't have the box in front of me) it barely works on mine.
